Job description

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

GMC has an opening for an Environmental Engineer  to support on-going projects throughout the southeast. This position will assist with field assessment and topographic survey to support biological resource-related projects (including compensatory mitigation), prepare technical reports and engineering plans in accordance with agency requirements, and assist with engineering analyses to support floodplain development.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

• Performing field work to support project monitoring, natural resource delineations, engineering studies, and site investigations.
• Assisting with design, plan production, and construction of stream restoration projects for both the public and private sector.
• Modeling and preparation of hydrologic and hydraulic studies to support floodplain development.
• Stormwater assessment, management and planning
• Experience related to Coastal engineering (i.e. living shorelines/resiliency planning) and Low Impact Design is preferred, but not required
• Building a technical foundation to support future project management in the aforementioned fields.
• Other activities, as directed by your supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering (or similar) from ABET accredited university.
• 5+years of experience.
• Physically able to perform field work.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD software. Experience with Civil3D is preferred.
• Working knowledge of HEC-RAS / HEC-HMS software.
• Working knowledge of MicroStation software is preferred, but not required.
• Working knowledge of field survey equipment is preferred, but not required.
• P rofessional engineering licensure is expected.

Travel requirements:

• Field (20%) and Office (80%)
• Occasional overnight travel
