Job Summary


The advanced practice provider (APP) evaluates, manages and appropriately treats patients in the ED based on standards of practice in Emergency Medicine with any symptom, illness, injury, or condition, and provide services necessary to ameliorate minor illnesses or injuries in collaboration with the ED physician. The APP delivers comprehensive direct patient care by performing complete physical examination, ordering and performing diagnostic testing and screening, diagnosing illness, prescribing both pharmacological and other treatments for patients. The APP also e valuates patients with major illnesses or injuries to determine if additional care at the next level is necessary.


Also, the APP assumes accountability for indirect care responsibilities, which support patient care including staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.


The APP will see lower acuity patients independently and will be responsible for all aspects of care and disposition. This care will be billed under the APPs individual NPI number for

professional fee reimbursement.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required

Education: Completion of Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP, current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and approval of the Decatur Morgan Hospital credentialing board.

Completion of Physician Assistant


Additional Skill/Abilities: BLS, ACLS, & PALS required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
