The Role
NRMCA's SVP of Learning and Development will have leadership responsibility for shaping and executing an overarching vision and strategic direction for professional development for the employees of our member companies. Includes conceptualizing, implementing, and marketing gold-star professional development programs and courses to help drive the industry forward. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Specific Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a forward-looking training and development strategy, assessing the development needs of our members.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the professional learning department. Build and maintain a highly effective and cohesive team. Coach, mentor and support team members with their ongoing growth and professional development. Performance management of the department including performance feedback, disciplinary action as needed and succession planning.
- In coordination with subject matter experts and key member stakeholders, e valuate and update existing education offerings , activities, and assessments to ensure all are learner-focused and deliver results aligned with the unique needs and preferences of our member organizations.
- In coordination with subject matter experts and key member stakeholders, identify, develop, champion, and launch new and appropriate professional development opportunities that are in alignment with member priorities and the organization's strategic vision, goals, and objectives.
- Continuously enhances training programs based on feedback, evolving industry trends, current adult learning theory, and business requirements, ensuring the alignment of training content with NRMCA objectives and members' needs.
- Develop engagement strategies to build a Professional Learning Community maximizing member access to education. Assess the success of development plans and help member employees make the most of learning opportunities through career pathing.
- Take lead and ownership of projects from conception to execution: business case, scope, cost, resources, schedule, action cycles, risks, challenges, decisions, interdependencies, and milestones to track progress and success. Define and oversee monitoring and achievement of key performance indicators. Oversee the gathering, analyzing, and reporting on performance metrics, including budgetary and ROI considerations.
- Facilitates training sessions and workshops, utilizing dynamic presentation skills and effective training methodologies to engage and educate participants.
- Leverages learning management systems (LMS) and other technological tools to deliver, track, and assess virtual/online training programs, ensuring efficient and seamless learning experiences.
- Evaluate and oversee training instructors.
- Ensures training programs are following federal, state, and local legal regulations.
- Market and develop customized programs for members as needed, identifying appropriate instructors, and developing course materials.
- Identify, supervise, and manage outside contractors to serve as principal instructors for courses. Assist principal instructors in identifying and securing guest speakers from both within and outside of NRMCA membership.
- Liaison to Workforce Development Committee, planning and conducting three annual meetings, engaging members to offer insight that supports short- and long-term goals for industry workforce enhancement and sustainability, as well as obtain insight about HR-compliance related advocacy needs.
- Write articles for trade publications communicating industry-specific workforce and training information.
- Promote and undertake joint ventures with other organizations to conduct projects and programs as appropriate.
- Write and submit education/training proposals to the Concrete Advancement Foundation for new training publications and curriculum as needed.
Requirements and Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree required, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Relevant
Experience: At least 10+ years' experience developing and facilitating training with
small and large-size groups. 10+ years in training and development, with a focus on adult learning methodologies preferred.
Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, both internal and external to NRMCA. Must have experience working across multiple networks and stakeholder groups and a proven ability to build strong relationships with member leaders, senior executives, colleagues, vendors, and partner organizations.
- Candidates should possess polished executive skills including vision, strategic thinking, consensus building, ability to read an audience, decisiveness, and influence.
- Proven experience as an L&D leader
- Current knowledge of effective adult learning theory and best practices
- Familiarity with e-learning platforms and practices
- Experience in project management and budgeting
- Proficient in MS Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other e-learning technologies.
- Proven track record in designing, implementing, and managing successful in-person and virtual training programs required.
- In-depth understanding of current adult learning theories and their application to training design required.
- Strong leadership experience, including team training, management and mentorship required.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences required.
- Analytical mindset to assess training program effectiveness and make data-driven decisions required.
- Ability to provide leadership, accept responsibility, set goals, work independently and in cooperation with others in large and small groups.
- Maintain standards of professionalism and service excellence in all functions of the role.
- Ability to develop trusting and collaborative relationships with teams across the organization.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills; sharp business acumen.
