POSITION SUMMARY

Provides medical nutrition therapy using evidence-based practice to optimize patient care. Provides consultation to the health care team to ensure efficient and effective nutrition care of patients. Monitors and evaluates patient care and nutrition outcomes on an ongoing basis. Educates patients, health care team members, dietetic interns, and members of the community. Participates in ongoing process improvement activities within the Nutritional Services Department and Williamson Health.
Maintains a customer-service, patient centered approach at all times when fulfilling job duties. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range of assigned clinical area. Works under the direction of the Clinical Nutrition Manager in the Nutritional Services Department.


May cover varying shifts and responsibilities, including nutrition support coverage or outpatient and community events, as dictated by staffing and patient census.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Formal Education / Training:

Master's degree in dietetics or related field preferred or Bachelor degree from an accredited school with major in foods and nutrition.
Completion of an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship Program or Individualized Supervised Practice Pathways. Registered as a dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required.
Current, valid license to practice dietetics in the state of Tennessee, obtained within 30 days of acceptance of position.


Workplace Experience:

At least one year clinical experience preferred experience in acute care setting.


Equipment and Skills Training:

Demonstrates competence in written, oral, and electronic communication skills.
Demonstrates effective ability to function in an interdisciplinary environment.


Physical Environment:

Work is typically performed in both inpatient and ambulatory settings including but not limited to patient care floors, nutritional services department kitchen and office areas and a variety of community settings.


Physical Effort:

Prolonged standing, ability to perform multi-functional tasks, sitting and walking.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
  1. Review medical order for diets.
  2. Screen and instruct patients according to protocol.
  3. Cross train for Metabolic support coverage as needed.
  4. Works in collaboration with other health care professionals to assess the nutrition state of the patient.
  5. Consistently chart appropriately, accurately and timely.
  6. Regularly contributes to the educational and professional development of other health care professionals.
  7. Monitors patient food quality and accuracy and makes adjustments as necessary.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge and use of the electronic medical record system and the electronic diet office system as well as basic computer programs for daily work functions.
  9. Monitor food and drug interactions.
  10. Assess learning needs of patients/caregivers, provides education on the basis of needs, and evaluates the effectiveness of teaching.
  11. Communication. Communicates to the Clinical Nutrition manager, patient services supervisor, call center and room service ambassadors regarding patients or patient care needs accurately and timely.
  12. Carry out assignments as directed by the Clinical Nutrition Manager and Team Lead in a supportive manner promoting team work respectfully.
