STDT LIFE DEV SPEC 3 (Assistant Director) Job Summary
Department Purpose The purpose of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual Resource Center (LGBTQIARC) is to provide an open, safe, inclusive space and community that is committed to challenging sexism, genderism, heterosexism, cissexism, monosexism and other systems of oppression affecting queer and trans people while promoting their well-being. We recognize that this work requires a continued process of understanding and addressing all forms of oppression, and are committed to this process both in our work and in the structure of the Center itself. The LGBTQIA Resource Center promotes education about all sexes, gender identities and sexual orientations, as well as space for self-exploration of these identities. The LGBTQIA Resource Center is a dynamic, responsive and collaborative organization that serves UC Davis and the surrounding region by providing a growing spectrum of programs, resources, outreach and advocacy.
Job Summary Under general supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director serves the entire campus community by centering the needs of students who experience the most marginalization.
A. The Assistant Director will work as a part of a leadership team to oversee the daily operations of the department and services for the campus community and is independently responsible for directing the LGBTQIA Resource Center's programming on topics related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit, Same Gender Loving, and Questioning people, using an intersectional, equity-minded approach to reflect the lived experiences of students of color, disabled students, first generation students, low income students, undocumented students and other students that experience marginalization.
B. The Assistant Director supervises scholar staff in their development, implementation and evaluation of programs, implements retention initiatives, and collaborates with other campus departments and student organizations to meet the needs of the broader campus community.
This position works alongside the LGBTQIA Resource Center career staff to provide a collaborative approach to student support.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Work flexible hours, including some varied lunch hours, evenings and weekends.
- Work in a shared office space and active work space with many distractions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education/Experience: - Bachelor's degree in related field
- Experience addressing the specific concerns of the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly community members with intersecting marginalized identities, with special attention to dynamics of power and privilege
- Experience in the supervision of diverse student staff, student leaders, and interns, in a multicultural higher education setting; this includes the ability to advise students, showing good judgment about when to make referrals, set boundaries, and equip students with skills and strategies to engage in self-advocacy.
- Experience cultivating and sustaining ongoing collaborative relationships with a wide array of constituents (staff, faculty, students, community members, and with campus and community organizations) in order to accomplish goals.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : - Strong skills in program management, including assessment, implementation and evaluation
- Strong skills in listening, communicating with diverse audiences, problem solving, working collaboratively as part of a team, mediation, diplomacy, conflict resolution and confronting unacceptable behavior.
- Communication skills to prepare and deliver presentations and to prepare written reports, correspondence, proposals, program assessments, email and other materials for a variety of audiences ensuring compliance with departmental and university guidelines, practices and principles.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education/Experience: - Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Student Development, Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education Administration) equivalent experience
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : - Demonstrated program development and evaluation skills
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, supervise, coach and evaluate student employees
- Demonstrated knowledge of student development, critical race theory, feminist theory, social justice theories, multicultural education, and leadership development.
- Demonstrated cultural humility skills and experience working with diverse student populations.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in student leadership development
- Skills to act in a lead capacity, coordinate, supervise, motivate, develop, evaluate and oversee the work of students.
