About the role:
The Supervisor, Technical Services role will manage the teams that construct and maintain the entire substation system for NOVEC. This position will be responsible for the full range of supervisory duties including work assignments and monitoring, staff development, performance reviews and disciplinary actions. The ideal candidate should be motivated and an organized team player with proven experience as a successful leader.
Overview of the role:
- Supervises crews in construction and maintenance activities for distribution and transmission substations.
- Sets clear expectations and provides ongoing feedback to employees regarding their performance. Effectively addresses performance issues. Conducts comprehensive performance reviews (per applicable bargaining unit contract).
- Responsible for the proper application of local union contracts and agreements. Works with managers and employees to resolve grievances and concerns in a timely and complete manner.
- Coordinates maintenance and construction of assigned assets by arranging for staffing, materials, and equipment with other departments such as Operations, Metering, Communications, Engineering, Planning, Control Center, and contractors according to prescribed schedules and methods.
- Responsible for the reliability and condition of substation assets.
- Analyzes maintenance data and accurately inputs the data into the maintenance database.
- Directs safety awareness and compliance initiatives within the group, and monitors safety performance. Champions efforts to achieve world-class excellence regarding safe work practices and procedures, and safety performance.
- Demonstrates and role models a customer-first attitude. Seeks to quickly resolve customer issues by collaborating with employees and other departments.
- Performs complex technical tasks for protective relaying and control systems, high voltage electrical and RF equipment, telecommunications, supervisory, and data acquisition systems.
- Performs and maintains, with troubleshooting at the component level, all electronic devices in SCADA, substation, and telecommunication equipment.
- Responds to major substation and telecommunication outages. Directs and or performs substation switching in emergencies.
- Works continually towards self-development to stay current on telecommunication, transmission, and substation equipment, and supervisory procedures and practices.
- Executes instructions and requests, plans and organizes resources and makes appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
An Associate's degree in an Electronic, Electrical or other related program from an accredited institution is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five to seven years of related experience including management of programs and supervision of people is required .
Professional Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, instrument transformers, metering equipment, voltage regulation and power quality.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable work practices and procedures and safety requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of power system maintenance and operation.
- Experience in a supervisor role, performing the full range of supervisory functions for teams responsible for substation construction and maintenance.
- Experience responding to unscheduled urgent utility related matters such as outages, emergency restoration, and other business needs outside normal business hours.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to travel to multiple work sites during scheduled work hours.
- Ability to work off-hours and travel outside NOVEC's territory for emergency assignments.
- Must qualify for Authorized Persons List to coordinate and initiate switching activities within the team.
- Ability to accurately interpret maps, specification sheets, prints, schematics, diagrams, and instructions to construct, maintain and troubleshoot effectively.
- Demonstrate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and mathematical skills.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels within the organization.
- Demonstrate ability to reason analytically and apply related theoretical concepts to practical needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge in the operation of specialized equipment such as the current relay test set, phase angle meter, IFR communications Service monitor, TTR, CT ratio, High current OCR tester, High voltage Megger, and gas analyzer.
