The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) located in Silver Spring, Maryland is looking for a faculty research fellow. 

What will I be doing and why I should apply?

The successful candidate will be a current faculty member at an accredited institution of higher education.  Under the mentorship of WRAIR staff, the selected  faculty fellow will participate in science and health literacy education research programs by collaborating with other educators to provide educational services to primary and secondary school students. Specific activities for this educational training program will include taking part in the creation of collaborative relationships with secondary schools to foster STEM-education networks and pathways to greater STEM learning in support of the WRAIR science education team's mission and grants by participating in research seminars, study conference calls, research protocol development meetings and lab meetings. The faculty fellow will collaborate on study designs and data analysis with the mentor and her team of science education researchers. Finally, the faculty member will take part in presentation and publication of research results.

What is the anticipated start date?

WRAIR is ready to make appointments immediately and prefer a May 2024 start date. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length?

This appointment is a part-time, twelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

About WRAIR

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) aims to conduct biomedical research that is responsive to Department of Defense and U.S. Army requirements and delivers lifesaving products including knowledge, technology and medical material that sustain the combat effectiveness of the warfighter. WRAIR provides unique research capabilities and innovative medical solutions to a range of Force Health Protection and Readiness challenges currently facing U.S. Service Members, along with threats anticipated during future operations. WRAIR has three research centers in the fields of military psychiatry and neuroscience, infectious disease research and enabling capabilities for product development. The centers focus on soldier fitness, brain injury, sleep management, and the development of vaccines and drugs for prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. For more information about the WRAIR, please visit  .

About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.  Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications

The qualified candidate will be a faculty member at an accredited two or four-year institution of higher education and possess a doctoral degree in one of the eligible disciplines.
