New Hanover County's Health department is seeking experienced nursing professionals to join their team as a
Public Health School Nurse . School nurses provide skilled nursing services to the students of a New Hanover County schools. Duties include identification of and planning for students with acute and/or chronic health care needs, provision of emergency care, medication administration, screening/referral/follow-up, prevention and control of communicable disease, provide health promotion and counseling, teach health related classes, assist with strategies to improve the school health program, and maintenance of school health records.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM; part time positions may be available. New Hanover County is currently seeking nurses for 40 and 32 hour positions. Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Salary Information: The
minimum of the hiring range is
$50,065.23 (prorated for 10 months of work) plus a competitive benefit and retirement package. Salary is negotiable and will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
Nurses are exempt level, salaried employees. This position is assigned to school health to
work 10-months per year . Pay is spread over 12 months (26 bi-weekly pay periods) to ensure nurses receive pay during the two months of time when not working. The minimum salary for a full time school nurse for 10 months of work is
$50,065.23 . Since school nurses are paid over 12 months for 10 months of work, the minimum annual salary for a 40 hour full-time position remains
$50,065.23 and an hourly rate is calculated to account for the two months of time when the nurse is not working, but still being paid.
Trainee Opportunities: Applicants who meet the required minimum education of an active RN License but lack the required nursing experience may be considered, and if hired, will be paid at least the minimum trainee rate of $47,681.48 and will remain at a trainee rate until the minimum experience qualifications are met. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: - Valid RN license with eligibility to practice in NC
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing
- OR Associate's Degree in Nursing
- OR graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
- 1 year of professional nursing experience
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds of equipment.
