Job Summary:

The Arts and Culture Seasonal Assistant will work alongside the City’s Arts and Culture Coordinator to assist with various programming activities, project administration, and marketing related to Art Week, Concerts on Broadway, various public art projects, Initial Point Gallery installations and receptions, historic preservation activities, and other duties as assigned. The Arts and Culture Seasonal Assistant will attend Meridian Arts Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission meetings and or subcommittee meetings and will be responsible for minutes and agendas.

Example of Responsibilities:

•Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing special events for Meridian Art Week and Concerts on Broadway. Art Week includes programming such as free art classes, chalk art competitions, live music, art walks, gallery openings, and the Art Drop
•Assist with general office functions such as scanning, organizing, and filing
•Utilize Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various other software to compose letters, correspondence, memos, and presentations
•Update Historic Preservation Commission and Meridian Arts Commission’s website pages using appropriate tools
•Assist in the production of event communication materials
•Communicate with the public about arts and culture programming and events
•Attend Arts Commission and Historic Preservation Commission meetings and follow up with administrative tasks such as agendas and minutes.

Job Specifications and Requirements:

•Strong interest in the Arts, as well as City Government;
•Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software;
•Ability to work in an office environment, communicate well with others, and work independently to meet deadlines;
•Must have excellent communication and writing skills;
•Ability to communicate and deal with the public, citizens and co-workers in a professional, empathetic, and positive manner;
•Ability to regularly plan, set up, and attend meetings, functions, and events, sometimes after hours;
•Must have a positive “can do” attitude

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

•Work is usually performed in an office environment with moderate noise level;
•Requires sitting at a desk or computer terminal for periods of time and ability to lift up to 15 to 30 pounds.;
•Constantly requires clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively with the public and other department members;
•Constantly requires clear vision to read printed materials and computer screen to accomplish work;
•Constantly requires repetitive movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers;
•Constantly requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks;
•Occasionally may require assisting with and attending department-sponsored special events or activities, sometimes after hours

Hours:

Works 19.5 hours per week. Hours worked are typically during normal business hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday with occasional weekday evening meetings and weekend work for special events. The final day of work is September 30, 2024.

Travel Requirements:

Local travel is occasionally required;
