Job description

The Engineering Intern will support the Marshall Space Flight Center Safety Mission and Assurance Services contract supporting NASA in Huntsville, AL.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Hands on technical work in support of on-going projects in various disciplines within NASA Safety & Mission Assurance (SMA) under the supervision of our more senior engineers.
• Basic engineering tasks related to design, analysis, test, integration, and systems engineering; opportunities can vary from performing analysis on existing flight hardware, assisting in the design and development of future hardware, performing analysis for both completed and future launches.
• Activities can include but are not limited to: data analysis, analysis methodology improvement projects, software improvement projects, trade studies, design for manufacturer studies, creating or modifying tool designs, processing cause and corrective actions for non-conformances, maintain production work instructions, supplier management, and component or integrated systems tests.
• Will support one or more experienced engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as experience the day-to-day workings of engineering.
• Perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which help them build a strong network within the NASA/Bastion community and with fellow interns.
• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

• This position requires US Citizenship.
• Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering, or a related field.
• Must have 0-3 years of recent and related work experience.

DESIRED:

• Self-starter requiring minimal direction in completing assigned tasks within ability to excel in dynamic environment.
• Training in common engineering computer programs such as AutoCAD, MATLAB, Power Bi and Python.
• NASA related experience is a plus.
• MSFC experience is a big plus.

WORK LOCATION:

• This position offers a flexible work schedule, onsite or hybrid work varies based upon discipline.
• This position is part-time 20-30hrs/week.
• This position may require some travel.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check, some positions require a clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen; some contracts require participation in periodic random drug and alcohol screening programs.

• Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• All of Bastion's employees must be team players.
• Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
• Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
• Must have a strong work ethic and must be safety culture oriented.
• Must be organized with good time management skills.
• Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time).
• May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
• Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
