Job description

This is a two (2) year contract position. This appointment may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs and funding of the department.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Climate, Atmospheric Science, and Physical Oceanography (CASPO) department is part of SIO's Oceans and Atmosphere (O&A) Section, which also includes the Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) department. CASPO is home to more than 50 Principal Investigators (PIs), their staff, numerous postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, visiting researchers and volunteers. CASPO Business Office oversees approximately $35 million in annual research expenditures, with most of the funding coming from federal and state agencies. CASPO scientists operate a number of high-profile research units, such as the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E) and the Center for Aerosol Impacts on Climate and the Environment (CAICE), as well as engineering facilities that fabricate a variety of specialized ocean research instruments (the Instrument Development Group and the Lagrangian Drifter Laboratory).

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under direction of a Principal Engineer, the incumbent will apply water resources engineering principles to assist in the development and evaluation of Forecast Informed Reservoir Operations (FIRO) at projects sites and the development decision support tools to assist in the implementation of FIRO. Work assignments completed by incumbent will be of moderate scope and require adequate knowledge of numerical modeling and analysis of reservoirs and managed river systems, practical knowledge of computer coding, and good communication skills.

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,300 - $134,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.58 - $64.42

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
