Position: Housekeeper/Companion
Location: Ann Arbor, MI
Type: Part-Time, Live In
Compensation: 30/hour, 4 weeks paid vacation, $500/mo Health Stipend, Severance if caree departs, guaranteed 30 hours per week.
Living Accommodations: Private in-law suite with private entrance, Car available for position.
Private family looking to hire a 30 hour per week live-in Housekeeper/Companion.
From the Family: I am a busy CEO working remotely and responsible for the care of my 92 year old mother (who is very healthy and coherent) who lives with me; I also have 3 small/medium dogs. I travel frequently and need someone who will provide part-time help when I'm home, and can provide closer to full-time help when I travel (take care of the dogs, make sure my mother is well & provide her with companionship and dinner, and to be on hand to problem-solve if there's an issue while I'm away).
I would like this person to do light housework, my mother's laundry & sheets, light cooking, dishes, and occasional errands. This person will not be responsible for any medical care for my mother (she doesn't require any now, and we would make a different arrangement for specialized care if she needs it in the future).
I estimate this would amount to 30 hrs per week on average but with fluctuation according to my travel schedule (less required when I'm in town, more required when I'm gone – appx 12 weeks a year). Except for dog care when I'm traveling, the housekeeper would have mornings until at least noon free to themself (my mother doesn't get up before noon). I cannot guarantee the length of this assignment – I need the person because of the care for my mother and I do not know how long she will be with us. However I will provide a contractual commitment to provide at least a 30 day notice and severance pay if I determine the position is no longer needed due to changes in our household. This could be a perfect position for someone who is a writer, artist, online student or does online part-time or gig work (I am ok with them having a second job as long as they prioritize our job needs first).
What Works Best for Family: We have a beautiful large house on the outskirts of Ann Arbor – in a planned development with lots of open space and a semi-rural feel. We are easy going and (I hope!) fun to be around – I try to do as much of a 'no drama' lifestyle as possible. We have a quiet non-smoking non-drinking (except an occasional glass of wine with dinner) household. I have adult children who visit periodically, as does my husband, who is stationed overseas for his work with the US government. We have 2 elderly dogs (both age 14) and one 3 year old dog, who are easy keepers.
I do not have household staff at the moment, but when living overseas had household staff of 6-8 people, and also lead a non-profit with 50+ employees, so I am an experienced people manager in both my personal and professional life. We are looking for someone who is responsible and forthcoming; I am flexible but don't like surprises – I much prefer to work with someone who will partner with me to make sure things run smoothly rather than having a highly hierarchical relationship. My mother and I have both lived extensively overseas and are very comfortable with people not originally from the US, and who may speak English as their 2nd or 3rd language.
Requested Duration: As long as needed (see below) but severance package offered in contract
