Requirements / Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation of high school; courses at community college level/trade school and/or courses conducted by various companies; and one of the following: A. Pass the District Proficiency Examination at the level appropriate to the job classification. B. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to journeyman skill with minimum of three (3) recent years of experience as a journeyman electrician. LICENSES: Possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Operators license. Proof of journeyman level qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Tools and methods used in electrical installation and repair work. Electrical terms and materials. Circuits used in buildings, single and polyphase motors, heating, ventilating, blower equipment, portable hand tools, stationary power tools and distribution systems. The National Electrical Code and the Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety. Test equipment such as ohmmeters, monitors, voltmeters, etc. ABILITY TO: Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams. Follow oral and written directions. Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the performance of required duties. Maintain accurate work logs and records. Understand and carry out a variety of complex instructions in an independent manner. Safely use and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment used for building maintenance purposes. Quickly and effectively diagnose maintenance and repair problems and take appropriate action as needed. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Perform mathematical calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Work safely and effectively on ladders, scaffolding, rigging, and roofs of varying heights. Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties.
