Overview
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria seeks a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist for a position as Assistant/Associate/Professor of Pediatrics to enhance a growing division. The positon requires 3 years of Pediatrics Residency and 3 years of Hematology/oncology Fellowship. The ideal candidate will be BC/BE in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and will hold or have applied for an Illinois physician’s license.
The position includes care of inpatients and out patients with a variety of pediatric hematologic and oncologic problems, including those followed in the Hemoglobinopathy Clinic and the St. Jude’s Midwest Affiliate, with an emphasis on sickle cell disease and benign hematology. The individual hired to this position will:
1) See referral hematology/oncology consultations from throughout the Central Illinois Region.
2) Fully participate in teaching programs in hematology and oncology for undergraduate medical students and residents and participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Department.
3) Organize and conduct bench and/or clinical research in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology.
4) Participate in cooperative research efforts and clinical trials in conjunction with ongoing sickle cell and oncology research protocols at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee; Children’s Oncology Group (COG), and other sickle cell clinical trials through entities such as the ASH Research Collaborative Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Trials Network.
The primary teaching hospital of UICOMP is the OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI), a tertiary care facility serving a 54 county region with a population base of over two million. CHOI is a hospital-within-a-hospital at the 616 bed OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center (SFMC). CHOI provides comprehensive services to children, including a 60-bed Level IV NCCU (40 ICU and 20 NIC beds) and a state-designated Pediatric Critical Care Center. CHOI is a major medical facility with 136 beds and a 32 bed critical care unit and the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois outside of Chicago. The bed complement also includes a 10-bed Hematology/Oncology Unit and 34 General Pediatric beds. The Jump Trading Simulation Education Center, a state of the art simulation facility with over 40,000 square feet of space for faculty and other resources, is a joint venture between UICOMP and CHOI and is located on the OSF campus. Learners from the nearly twenty residency and fellowship programs, including pediatrics and medicine/pediatrics, and the four-year medical school train at CHOI and SFMC.
