Job description

Data Engineer - Dashboard Development & Product Information Management



Core Responsibilities
The ideal candidate has proven experience in dashboard creation, data management, and a strong understanding of internal systems such as mdb groups, ganpati groups, access management, App Scripts, and Buganizer.



1. Requirements Gathering and Understanding

 

2. Data Preparation and Modeling
  • Write SQL queries: Extract and transform data from multiple sources, with careful attention paid to group structures and access permissions.
  • Data cleaning and validation: Rigorously apply validation rules, correct errors, handle missing values, ensuring data integrity within data standards.
  • Data structuring: Use Python and SQL to design hierarchies, relationships, and efficient database schemas tailored for dashboarding and the internal environment.
  • Utilize App Scripts: Where beneficial, integrate App Scripts to automate interactions with Google Sheets, data imports from forms, and other workflows.
 

3. Dashboard Development (PLX)
  • Design intuitive wireframes: Sketch layouts focused on clarity, considering the best ways to leverage internal tool integrations.
  • Utilize PLX and internal tool features: Seamlessly combine PLX components with potential enhancements from internal tools (e.g., data pulled from Sheets, visualizations customized via App Script)
  • Build compelling dashboards: Create visualizations that tell data stories effectively.
  • User testing & feedback: Involve stakeholders early and often, iterating based on their suggestions within the constraints of the internal environment.
 

4. Automation and Governance
  • Script data pipelines: Use Python to automate cleaning, validation, and data updates with Google systems in mind.
  • Implement approval workflows: Develop tools within the internal framework (forms, App Scripts) to enforce approvals before critical data goes live.
  • Collaborate on data governance: Work with stakeholders to define rules, quality checks, access controls, and documentation standards aligned with best practices.
  • Monitoring with internal tools: Utilize internal tools or integrate App Scripts to create alerts for data quality issues within PLX dashboards.
 

Essential Skills:
  • Data-focused coding: Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • PLX expertise: Deep understanding of dashboard creation within PLX.
  • Ambiguity tolerance: Ability to handle unclear requirements and propose viable solutions.
  • Communication: Skill in translating between technical work and business needs.
  • Self Starter: The individual must have the ability to chalk out a path with minimal guidance. The person must also be able to provide guidance to other junior TVCs in support roles

Desired Skills:
  • Google systems knowledge: Working knowledge of mdb groups, ganpati groups, access management processes, App Scripts, and Buganizer.
