Job description
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver lessons for multiple sections of World History, including Advanced Placement (AP), predominately at the Grade 10 level
- Teach electives in the History and Social Studies Department as needed by Department Chair
- Prepare academic materials, including homework assignments, syllabi and instructional handouts; report to the department chair monthly regarding the effectiveness of concepts
- Facilitate classroom discussions and encourage the participation of all students, incorporating relevant reading and current events
- Grade papers, tests and homework, monitoring progress and adapting lesson plans to meet students’ needs
- Assess individual strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of each student, addressing issues as needed
- Uphold clearly communicated rules and behavior expectations for a disciplined and inclusive classroom setting
- Communicate with parents regarding noteworthy achievements, academic challenges, special considerations or concerns
Job Skills & Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or history
- A minimum of five years teaching experience in the field of history and/or social studies
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education and/or History, or related field
- AP teaching experience, particularly in World History
- Previous experience in the Harkness method
