Position Overview:

The Director of Strategic Partnerships leads partnerships that advance resource development, supporting a $7.5 - $8.5 million budget per year. The Director will work with various partners and stakeholders, including nonprofits, community-based organizations, corporations, government, and public agencies to develop proposals on joint efforts. The Director supports grant writing (specifically for public funds), grant reporting, and proactively helps our teams build relationships and advance work with America’s Job Centers, Youth Source Centers, social enterprises, community-based organizations/non-profits, L.A. Unified School District, L.A. Regional Consortium, L.A. County Office of Education, individual community colleges and other partners that can be leveraged for joint funding.

Primary Responsibilities:

In concert with the Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships and Director of Development, set annual qualitative and quantitative goals and strategies to retain donors, expand donor base, and increase UNITE-LA’s portfolio of government and public resources.

Co-develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan with program leads and Director of Development, based on organizational funding priorities established by UNITE-LA’s leadership, incorporating government and public funding.

Develop and manage a portfolio of prospective funding opportunities, especially government and public funding opportunities, for the purposes of discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Identify and qualify new opportunities and implement strategies for proposal development and submission.

Project Management

Strategic management of resources by understanding an organization’s internal and external assets and how to best allocate them.

Write and lead funding proposals in collaboration with program leads and other partners that advance our portfolio of work, as well as create public-private partnership opportunities, including support with proposal budgets.

Update/Manage customer relations management system (Salesforce) for strategic partnership management.

Develop a strategy for building out and strengthening partnerships proactively that can be activated when funding opportunities are available.

Monitor and analyze fundraising data and communicate progress and analysis through reports to the board of directors and staff.

Collaborate with the Senior Director of Accounting on proposal and program budgets.

Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team.

This may include reflecting on team goals and processes to continuously improve team performance, appropriately applying own expertise and steps back and encourages others to apply their areas of expertise, promoting collaborative decision-making processes and ability to lead a team to reach consensus.

Cultivating Innovation: ability to identify areas where innovation is needed, is open to input and new approaches and develops solutions with appropriate partnerships. This may include identifying cross-organization questions and areas needing innovation, encouraging different perspectives/ techniques, creating new ideas and processes to address root causes of complex problems.

Strategic Thinking: ability to think outside the box to identify a broader set of opportunities and assets from which to advance UNITE-LA’s fundraising goals. This will include understanding our partner and funding landscape, the problems they are focused on solving, the different approaches offered by different solutions and their benefits and drawbacks.

Strategic Resource Management: ability to make and communicate strategic decisions that effectively balance tradeoffs between organizational financial sustainability and impact at an organizational level.

Flexibility and Adaptability: ability to work under tight deadlines, pivot when there are changing external factors, work within different working styles on the team, and maintain a positive, solutions-oriented approach.

Operational Execution: ability to provide cross-functional leadership and program management for first-of-a-kind projects. This includes serving as the quarterback and project manager for efforts like opportunity identification, negotiation, grant development and program execution, as well as managing follow-ups, scheduling, documentation, housekeeping, and other day-to-day tasks.

Initiative: proactively seeks opportunities to best serve the organization, achieve overall goals, and determines the internal and external resources needed to enable success and develop a plan to secure them.

Experience:

A solid foundation in the principles of nonprofit management and fundraising.

A proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals for an organization with a budget of $5 million or more per year.

Co-developing competitive local, state and federal government and public funding proposals.

Knowledge of the federal, state, and local funding opportunities is a plus.

Knowledge of project management software, specifically Asana, is a plus.

Knowledge of CRM software, specifically Salesforce, is a plus.

Knowledge of education and workforce development efforts is a plus.

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will report to and work closely with the SVP, Strategic Partnerships to advance resource development for the organization’s multiple initiatives. Additionally, the Director will work closely with the Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships, who oversees UNITE-LA’s national resource development plan and supports resource development for UNITE-LA’s local work. The Director will also work with the Director of Development on joint fundraising strategies, especially to advance public-private partnership opportunities. Finally, the Director will work with UNITE-LA’s partners, with whom we have or will have joint ventures, to co-develop fundraising strategies.

Position Details:

This is a full-time exempt position. While many staff continue to regularly work remotely, attendance at our downtown Los Angeles office is expected several times throughout the year. Occasional travel is required for in- and out-of-state conferences.

The starting salary range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000. If you are offered a position at UNITE-LA, your final compensation will be based on factors such as relevant skills, experience and/or education.
