DESCRIPTION

The AWS Mechanical, Edge, and Specialized HW Engineering team drives system innovation and NPI development for the servers platforms used by all of Amazon Web Services, including EC2, S3, Archival Storage, and CloudFront. Our engineers solve the hardest problems that fuse software, hardware, and the cloud. We take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.


We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to build Software solutions for micro services, tools, test automation, firmware integration and deployment, and SW infrastructure for AWS world scale compute and storage solutions. The ideal candidate for this role will be an innovative, hands-on leader seasoned in building and leading software teams developing infrastructure solutions.
As a manager in this team, you will be leading a team of highly motivated software developers that thrives on solving challenging problems with innovative solutions. The team couples software and firmware skills sets with scalable software engineering disciplines to solve real world data center infrastructure problems. You would lead a team building, validating, and operating software solutions in diverse technology domains from embedded software platforms to large-scale distributed software systems in Python, C/C++, and other languages using proprietary and open source technologies and Amazon services alike.
You will lead a team responsible for development and operation of embedded software, firmware, test development and automation, and tools in the AWS fleet spanning server management and monitoring, storage solutions, power and battery systems, and more. You will lead new feature development efforts from concept to launch and beyond. You will establish strategic vision and drive execution in defining and delivering new products and services. This is a fast-paced position where you will be challenged to think on your feet. You’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. AWS Engineers are shaping the way people use computers and designing the future of cloud.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
