Job description

The Pain Management Pharmacist is responsible for working with the designated Pain Management Specialty Pharmacist (PMSP) to deliver quality patient and prescriber interactions for patients identified as receiving higher risk opioid regimens. The role includes patient and prescriber outreach via phone and fax to ensure that IWP exerts proper diligence and clinical care for their patients receiving opioids as part of their treatment. This is a our (4) week, temporary position in our pharmacy in Andover, MA. This position is 32 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

What You’ll Do

• Work with the Pain Management Specialty Pharmacist to identify IWP patients that are initiated on chronic or higher risk opioid therapy
• Perform an in-depth review of the identified patients utilizing both IWP fill history and PDMP (prescription drug monitoring program) data to identify all risk factors affecting the patient with special focus on identifying any diversion risk(s)
• Counsel patients identified as receiving chronic or higher risk opioid therapy to ensure the patient is taking the medication as prescribed and is aware of the risks of the treatment
• Discuss patient’s treatment plans with providers to ensure they are aware of risks associated with opioid treatment and they are following clinical best practices regarding safe opioid prescribing
• Ensures compliance with laws regarding mandatory consultations with patients on prescriptions and OTC drugs
• Participates in quality assurance such as continuous quality improvements (CQI) and quality related events (QRE) reporting, inclusive of reporting, inclusive of reporting any suspicious patient or prescriber interactions/information identified

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• Pharm D required
• Licensure by Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy
• Strong working knowledge of Pain Management and relevant CDC chronic pain opioid guidelines
• Working knowledge of State & Federal regulations
• Ability to deliver on high quality of service and patient advocacy
