About the Position:
This position is a part of the Advanced Capability Development Power Electronics Hardware Team, which is tasked with developing new hardware for the electrification of combat vehicles. The team is responsible for the design, build, control development of, and integration of new electrical power generation, conversion, distribution, and storage hardware. The team is also responsible for the operation of the High Voltage Conversion & Electrical Storage (HVC&ES) Research and Development Laboratory.
This position is for those with an interest in mechanical design for power electronics hardware. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be exposed to multiple engineering disciplines related to vehicle electrification. Initially, this position will support senior engineers with ongoing efforts but will eventually lead new efforts.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Assist senior engineers with design, build, integration and test of prototype electronic hardware
- Create mechanical models of power electronics and enclosures
- Create detailed mechanical designs in CAD systems (Creo, SOLIDWORKS, etc.)
- Create fabrication drawings
- Support Power Electronics Electrical Engineers in the development of circuit board assemblies to best package the electronics in cases to ensure they will meet MIL-STD requirements
- Perform thermal simulations (using Flotherm, Sauna, etc.) to ensure that the electro-mechanical design of the hardware units will pass qualification testing
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to ensure that the electro-mechanical design of the hardware units will pass qualification testing
- Work within a small team to assist in the design, build, and testing of new vehicle electrical power hardware
- Support the integration and testing of high voltage vehicle power systems in the laboratory and on the vehicle
- Expand the capabilities of the HVC&ES Lab, to include:
- Improving component testing
- Evolving the Vehicle Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test-beds
- Participate in laboratory training
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience of 1-3 years
- Interest in Electronic Packaging, Thermal and Shock/Vibration Analysis tools and techniques
- Experience with CAD (Solid Works, Creo, AutoDesk, etc.)
- Familiarity with various Military Standards (MIL-STD 810G, MIL-STD 461F, ATPD 2404B) and General Industry Standards (ASME Y14.5M-1994, etc.)
- Experience with reading and creating mechanical drawings for electronics using various applications
- Experience with Teamcenter, Creo, Atlassian Confluence
- Experience analyzing, simulating and testing thermals, shock and vibration of packaged electronics
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a small team
- Strong multi-tasking skills
- Strong written & oral communication skills
- Ability to occasionally travel
