Job description
In partnership with the Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Association (DMASWA), the University of Dubuque (UD) is seeking a Stewardship and Sustainability Coordinator in the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences. This full-time, 12-month, 35 hour a week fixed-term position is anticipated to begin in February 2024 and has full funding through June 30, 2025. This position will work across UD's campus and among the seven institutions of higher education in the region. The opportunity for course instruction is possible for a candidate with a master's degree. Primary Responsibilities:
Supervise UD science work study students and student organizations, and manage science purchase orders
Lead the Dubuque College Sustainability Coalition through partnering institutions of higher education in the region (Clarke University, Divine Word College, Emmaus Bible College, Loras College, Northeast Iowa Community College, University of Dubuque and Wartburg Theological Seminary)
Develop a campus sustainability plan with measurable targets including monetary savings, energy reduction, waste reduction, and stewardship of natural resource education
Design educational course modules related to waste reduction for use in courses, campus trainings, and new student and faculty orientation
Conduct two annual waste reduction events (fall and spring) for the local institutions of higher education through the Dubuque College Sustainability Coalition
Serve as the point of contact to exchange ideas, best practices, and policies with specific attention to food waste reduction, energy use, and lifecycle purchasing awareness amongst the institutions
Compile data on energy, water, transportation, and waste metrics with partnering institutions of higher education
Attend DMASWA and UD science department meetings and report programming progress to the parties on a regular basis
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree (master's degree preferred) in sustainability or a related field
Previous experience working with institutions of higher education and/or municipalities in waste reduction projects
Valid driver's license
Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
