Departmental Overview The College of Chemistry is comprised of:
- The Department of Chemistry
- The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Both disciplines provide the opportunity and means for addressing major scientific and technological challenges, such as climate change, increasing the world's food supply, synthesizing new materials, and discovering and delivering important drugs. The College Relations and Development team within the College of Chemistry is responsible for supporting the research and educational priorities through private philanthropic support and bespoke engagement opportunities.
Position Summary The Associate Director of Alumni Affairs will oversee and direct outreach, engagement programming, annual giving solicitation and stewardship strategies for the alumni of the College of Chemistry. Provides immediate supervision of the Donor Relations and Event Specialist.
The incumbent will develop new alumni relations program initiatives, explore opportunities to strengthen existing programs, manage and supervise the Donor Relations and Events Specialist and evaluate staff deployment as appropriate. Additionally, they will direct the campaign to raise unrestricted annual donations from alumni and friends of the school. This position requires proven management and organizational skills, strong oral and written communication skills, an enthusiasm for working with people, the ability to manage many projects simultaneously involving alumni volunteers, and a sense of humor.

Responsibilities Annual Giving:
- Oversee the annual campaign to raise unrestricted annual donations for the College of Chemistry
- Work with the Sr. Assistant Dean to set annual goals and tactics.
- In coordination with the UDAR Office Annual Giving, design a comprehensive plan and ensure its effective execution.
- In collaboration with the Associate Director of Development, schedule and draft all annual appeals.
- Identify new prospects annually through alumni and friend cultivation activities.
- In concert with the Sr. Assistant Dean and the Associate Director of Development, identify and execute comprehensive strategies to move prospects through the major gifts pipeline.
Events:
- Oversees Donor Relations and Events Specialist to ensure the coordination and execution of department events.
- Supervise Events Specialist, and Development Associate to manage the stewardship process for the College of Chemistry.
- Supervise student assistant to provide additional administrative support
- Oversee the Donor Relations and Events Specialist effort to draft annual appeals and the scheduling of appeals communications
- With support from the Donor Relations and Events Specialist, plan and execute cultivation and stewardship events for alumni and friends.
Alumni Relations:
- This position will be responsible for the overall management of the College of Chemistry's alumni programming.
- Advise the Sr. Assistant Dean on matters pertaining to alumni relations and program development, strategically developing programs to engage alumni and friends with the school and support the larger fundraising goals of the school.
- Serve as primary liaison to UC Berkeley UDAR to manage and coordinate the CoCs award nominations, Alumni Trustee nominations, and collaborative regional programming
- Direct and supervise alumni communications including creation of e-Newsletter; alumni presence on the college web page; invitations, and social media communication. Collaborate with Student Services on student/alumni programs. Represent the alumni office at various activities and events and at internal meetings.
- Manage a small portfolio of prospects, soliciting gifts with the goal of upgrading their annual giving and identifying potential major gift donors, and identifying potential planned giving (estate gifts) donors.
- Occasional overnight travel for events, conferences and donor meetings.
Required Qualifications - Knowledge of fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, and practices.
- Direct experience creating, building, and soliciting for annual fund and direct response marketing campaigns.
- Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the skill to produce information that is appropriately presented and effectively received by target constituencies.
- Advanced project management skills, including demonstrated ability to plan and implement successful events and programs from beginning to end, including setting and meeting goals and deadlines.
- Highly developed organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage and perform multiple simultaneous tasks and assignments efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues and other team members.
- Experience independently taking initiative and solving problems with exceptional judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of issues of concern and trends in higher education, preference for advanced knowledge of public institutions of higher education.
- Strong social and networking skills with the ability to identify and connect newly-admitted and current students, and recent graduates with alumni constituency groups.
- Advanced skills to analyze information to strategically communicate insights to internal and external stakeholders, and provide program recommendations, and budget allocation in order to set expectations for successful programs.
- Experience collaborating within a high-functioning team, with advanced knowledge of practices and procedures related to establishing and sustaining effective working relationships across internal and external constituencies.
Education/Training:
- Bachelor's degree in related area and 3- 5 years working in donor/alumni relations setting, and/or equivalent training/experience.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
- The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $88,600.00 - $105,000.00.
- This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours/week), Career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
