A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION SPECIALIST

The Industrial Automation Specialist : works closely with multiple departments to identify operational, equipment, process, and other needs and establish metrics for achieving improved operational quality, throughput, and accuracy; responsible for developing hardware, software, electrical, and control systems and standards to enhance operational effectiveness, efficiency, quality, and safety performance through automation consolidation, upgraded systems and/or processes and otherwise; provides support to the engineering, maintenance, and production departments to achieve automation, systems, and operational objectives through troubleshooting, technical design reviews, application assistance, and identifying and facilitating training; responsible for the development, integration, implementation, and maintenance of systems that automate processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide technical support, problem-solving, maintenance, modifications, and continuous improvement for automated control systems.
2. Work cross-functionally to optimize current equipment and develop controls specification for functions, user interface, and quality control for high reliability.
3. Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
4. Support and perform commissioning duties as needed for internally supported projects, including system validation, system training, and documentation.
5. Source and manage outside integration contractors to meet project deliverables of cost, timeline, and equipment performance criteria.
6. Research new and innovative equipment and processes to support the company initiatives of increasing market share and reducing cost.
7. Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services, following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures, and requesting special service when appropriate.
8. Manage Automation projects including approval process, equipment, and material ordering, installation, and start-up.
9. Integrate into systems methods of eliminating or controlling potential safety and health hazards to maintain a safe work environment.
10. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. In-depth knowledge of technical methods, principles, and practices.
2. Extensive technical knowledge of engineering and product development.
3. Ability to work cooperatively with others to ensure constructive and productive business relationships and cross-functional collaboration.
4. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
5. Self-motivated, organized, proactive, and driven.
6. Ability to understand and effectively use computerized business systems and other technology and business platforms.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
8. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
9. Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
10. Ability to travel overnight as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical engineering.
2. A minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or related field.
3. Must be very knowledgeable in programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and have experience in related programming and ladder logic.
