Job description
For Water Street Mission to fulfill its mission and purpose, it is critical for all staff to participate in the development and maintenance of a healthy Christian Community. By living out our faith with one another and creating a space where our guests are invited to experience that community with us, we participate in lives being restored. Even as some positions have minimal direct contact with guests, each staff member has an essential role in forming and maintaining Christian community. The love of Christ, evidenced in our Water Street community, is the real impetus for change with our guests.
Job Summary: To aid in the spiritual and emotional growth of each Guest (women and children) through Biblical ministry. The Children's Ministry Coach will involve guests (women and children) in experiences to promote the learning of healthy life-skills.
All Water Street Mission Staff must be:
• Willing to sign the Water Street Mission Statement of Faith
• A current member or regular attendee of a local church
• Able to fully support the Water Street Mission core values and ministry philosophy.
Essential Functions:
Culture and Values
• Share the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and actions with people we serve, communicating hope and dignity.
• Walk alongside fellow WSM staff in Christian community as we journey toward maturity.
• Encourage restoration in the lives of coworkers and guests, recognizing we are each restored by God to become restorers.
• Work in full coordination with other WSM staff at all times to identify, report and respond appropriately to any potential threats to the safety and wellbeing of guests.
Role Specific Responsibilities
• Facilitate times for children staying at WSM in the Family Engagement Room during hours that parents are scheduled to be in on-campus meetings/appointments.
• Assist the Family Engagement Supervisor with managing the appointment schedule and communicating with parents.
• Play an active role in the spiritual development of Family Engagement ministry and team.
• Work at least one evening per week, as assigned.
• Be available to work as the need may arise in crisis situations and/or for special events.
• Participate in orienting new families and children to WSM and the Family Engagement room.
• As the schedule allows, seek out opportunities to build relationships and provide guidance and support to families outside of the Family Engagement room (ex: in the Dining Hall, common areas, on-campus activities, etc.).
• Assist the Family Engagement Supervisor with creating and implementing curriculum, themes, activities, and assessments in pursuit of each child's individualized growth and learning goals.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation.
• Ensure the room is organized, clean, safe, and supplies are ordered/stocked.
• Communicate observations and concerns to the Family Engagement Supervisor.
• Cooperate and coordinate with other Residential Life departments and staff.
• Participate in special programs and events and in educational/training opportunities as requested (back-to-school supply programs, Christmas activities, etc.)
• Attend all assigned meetings (Family Engagement Team, shift change, Life Coach team, off-site training, etc.).
• Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Experience teaching, developing lesson plans and/or working with children who have experienced trauma or who have special needs is required. A degree in teaching, early childhood education, special education, or equivalent years of experience in a ministry or learning environment is essential. Compassionate, ministry-minded person with an ability to connect with vulnerable families and build healthy relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries. Experience working with a case management or clinical database is required. Microsoft Office and Outlook proficiency required. Bilingual English and Spanish highly preferred.
