- Our client is currently seeking a Director, Supply Chain with direct experience coordinating, organizing, and overseeing activities involved in the identification and acquisition of material for production of company products. The position will lead a team and directly purchase goods and services according to organizational policies and procedures and negotiate pricing. Additionally, the position will oversee vendor and supplier management. The right candidate will work closely and collaboratively with program management, materials management, and production planning, among other internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
- Supervises department staff and the daily workflow for the department.
- Select suppliers and place purchase orders that provide the highest quality products with a history of on-time delivery and cost savings benefits.
- Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to identify and maintain resources needed to establish and provide an effective supply of production and related material.
- Establishes performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of factors affecting the supply chain.
- Maintains required quantity of supplies and materials to optimize production.
- Analyzes current inventories and procedures; suggests improvements to increase efficiency of supply chain and profitability for the company.
- Negotiates pricing and long-term agreements with suppliers.
- Monitors the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements; identifies and qualifies new suppliers in collaboration with other departments.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor s degree in a related field.
- Demonstrated work experience within a purchasing role in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of metal machining and forging.
- Thorough understanding of purchasing and supply chain principles and best practices.
- Defense procurement and sourcing or closely adjacent experience.
- Supervisory experience leading a team of buyers and supplier managers and willingness to be hands-on.
- Interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, shippers, and customers.
- Knowledgeable of government procurement practices.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Dynamics GP.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledgeable of export control and ITAR, FAR, and DFAR.
- Working within an AS9100/ISO/Nadcap accredited company.
- Able to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred Skill & Experience
- Master's Degree
- Demonstrated work experience within a purchasing role in aerospace and defense.
- Certification by Institute of Supply Management (ISM) or similar.
- Background in engineering.
