Associate Professor of Political Science - Public Policy
Location:The University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenured position in public policy at the Associate Professor level beginning in August 2024. We seek candidates with an active interest in federalism and intergovernmental relations, including tribal nations, and who have substantive interest or expertise in the impacts of changing seasonal weather patterns, water policy, land-use policy, or infrastructure policy. The successful candidate will have experience in data analysis and visualization, as well as a demonstrated commitment to externally-funded research. The successful candidate will demonstrate ability to contribute to the department’s course offerings in public policy, public administration, or research methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will have experience with graduate student mentoring and research collaboration.
This position is sponsored by a National Science Foundation (NSF)-sponsored initiative, and the successful candidate would be expected to contribute to the S3OK NSF EPSCoR program for the duration of the award and to participate in collaborative extramural funding opportunities, such as those from the NSF, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health, and private sources. The successful candidate will have access to significant research development funds to support participation in these activities. The teaching load for this position is two courses per semester.
This position is within the Department of Political Science, a large department with two undergraduate majors (Political Science and Public & Nonprofit Administration), multiple minors, two master’s degree programs (Public Administration & Political Science), and a doctoral program. The department is housed within the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma. The University of Oklahoma is the flagship research institution for the state of Oklahoma, enrolling over 30,000 students, located in Norman, OK, a vibrant college town just 20 miles south of Oklahoma City.
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field at the time the position begins in August 2024. Applicants must have a demonstrated, active research program, with experience in or demonstrated commitment to externally-funded research. Applicants must also have experience in data analysis and visualization. Preference will be given to applicants with an active interest in federalism and intergovernmental relations, including tribal nations, to applicants with substantive interests in the impacts of changing seasonal weather patterns, and to applicants with experience in mentoring and collaborating with students on research, as well as in teaching public policy and public administration at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
