Overview



Princeton University is seeking a talented Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team. The NP will provide occupational health services including evaluation and management of occupational injury/illness, return-to-work case management, travel and medical surveillance, and acute care for episodic non-occupational injuries/illnesses.

This is full-time, benefits eligible, on-site position.

A fully accredited facility, University Health Services (UHS) at Princeton University provides responsive, high quality clinical, preventive, and consultative health services to over 8,500 Princeton undergraduate and graduate students and their dependents, and occupational health services to Princeton University faculty, staff, and employees. An integrated, evidence-informed model guides all UHS practices and services. Responsibilities



Clinical care
⢠Diagnoses and treats common occupational injuries and urgent care complaints
⢠Conducts periodic evaluations and exit health surveillance examinations for employees with exposure to specific health hazards; e.g., asbestos, noise, live viruses, toxic substances and chemicals, and others as specified by government standards.
⢠Performs pre-placement examinations for employees in specific occupations as required by the University (e.g. Public Safety).
⢠Provides preventive, university-sponsored travel and work injury-related immunizations.
⢠Performs respirator examinations for specified employees.
⢠Provides evaluation for medical clearance to enter animal facilities or work with live viruses in research laboratories.
⢠Provides consultation and assistance to the Employee Assistance Program.
⢠Provides emergency triage and occasional episodic illness/injury care for employees or referral for same.

Case Management
⢠Performs return-to-work case management following occupational illness or injury.
⢠Communicates philosophy of early return to work and light duty programs in close collaboration with outside physicians and consultants.

Administrative Management
⢠Assists the Director of Occupational Health Services with the development and maintenance of policies, protocols, and procedures to advance the health of University employees.
⢠Assists the Director of Occupational Health Services in collaboration with other University departments in developing and maintaining University policies and procedures to implement and monitor compliance with OSHA and Workers Compensation regulations, and federal and stated health and safety regulations. Departments include Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Risk Management, Human Resources, General Counsel, academic departments, and others on occasion.
⢠Participates in various committees and work groups according to the needs of UHS as assigned. These may include UHS Quality Improvement Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, UHS CE Committee and others as assigned.
⢠Other duties as assigned


Training & Professional Development
⢠Maintains current certification in CPR and AED with annual training sessions.
⢠Maintains current licensure in NJ, Nurse Practitioner Certification and current CDS and DEA registrations (if prescribing controlled drugs) and complies with NJBN and other regulatory standards.
⢠Participates regularly in professional continuing education activities and meets NJ State continuing CE requirements for licensure.
⢠Completes standard in-house training annually in blood-borne pathogens and certain occupational risk areas, as determined by the Director of Occupational Health Services, and the Director of Medical Service; and complies with adverse event/occurrence reporting policy.
⢠May participate in mentoring clinicians in training.
⢠May present to other members of UHS or to the campus community.
⢠Provides consultative guidance when requested by another UHS professional. The UHS model fosters a collaborative relationship between physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurses.





Qualifications



Essential Qualifications
⢠Master's or professional degree
⢠3+ years experience

⢠Hold and be eligible for or have a current license as a nurse practitioner in New Jersey with national board certification through the ANCC, AANP, or ACCN.
⢠Eligible or have current DEA and CDS license in the state of New Jersey (if prescribing controlled drugs).

⢠Thorough and working knowledge of medical care of work-place injuries and illnesses, including common orthopedic and urgent care complaints.
⢠Proficiency in suturing and other common urgent care procedures.
⢠Knowledge in principles and methodologies (e.g., Plan-Do-Study-Act, Root Cause Analysis, measurement, data collection, and analysis) needed to support and lead Quality Improvement projects and activities. and/or willing to attend UHS-based Quality Improvement basic training within first 6-months of hire.
⢠Respect for the cultures and identities of others.

Preferred Qualifications
⢠Candidates with prior occupational medicine experience are strongly preferred.
⢠The ideal candidate will have knowledge of OSHA, DOT regulations and workplace health and safety concepts.
⢠Certification as a Commercial Driver Medical Examiner or ability to obtain
⢠Familiarity with total work systems (such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, and Baldrige National Quality Program); and reviewing and analyzing data.
⢠Training or experience in the principles of health equity and other diversity and inclusion topics.
