Job Description and Duties
Our Real Assets (RA) team is currently seeking an Investment Manager (IM) to assist in the management of the CalPERS RA - Infrastructure portfolio in implementing RA’s Strategic Plan and will be responsible for sourcing and underwriting new investment opportunities, managing assigned portfolios, and ensuring appropriate processes, controls, systems, and risk management are in place within their area of responsibility to enable investment performance and assure control of operations and drive our CalPERS mission.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Evaluates and recommends (1) external infrastructure managers/partners as needed to implement the investment strategy; (2) new investment/co-investment opportunities which fall outside of the discretionary authority of strategic partners; and (3) new direct/platform investment opportunities.
- Directs and performs asset management duties for assigned infrastructure partnerships and assets. Regularly engages with partners and management teams. Evaluates the performance of partners with respect to compliance with legal agreements and CalPERS’ policies.
- Oversees work of outside consultants and advisors, including external counsel. As required, leads and/or assists the development of sector and strategic plans.

Telework Information : This position is eligible for hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Possession of an advanced degree, such as MBA, or certifications such as CFA, CPA, CAIA, or other equivalent financial or accounting certification.
- Research experience in the commercial real estate or infrastructure.
- Experience working with database systems and knowledge of data mining and data modeling.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure, including but not limited to Power, Transport, Energy, and Telecommunications.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Experience with Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and particularly Excel.
- A comfort and appreciation for operating in a team and consensus driven environment is a key aspect underlying success in the CalPERS environment.
- A high degree of initiative, professionalism, confidentiality, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Be flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, assignments, and other interruptions which may impact pre-established timelines and courses of action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
