Corporate Compliance Summary: The successful applicant will provide support to the Corporate Compliance Team. The intern will have the opportunity to support several cross-functional compliance activities, including promotional review activities, data privacy program, transparency reporting, corporate policy and procedure drafting and enforcement, enterprise risk assessment and internal training and monitoring. The intern will gain exposure to healthcare compliance law, including Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA), Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), False Claims Act (FCA), Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), data-privacy laws, and the Sunshine Act, and will gain skills including policy drafting, project management and working on awareness communications to further Corporate Compliance’s goal of ensuring Ionis remains compliant with all applicable laws.

Responsibilities: - Provide project management support to Compliance Team members on all elements of an effective compliance program as outlined in the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) compliance program guidance, which include policies and procedures, communications/ awareness messaging, training and education, internal monitoring, and interactions with HCPs.
- Support the annual state and federal and O-US HCP/HCO transparency spend data collection project to prepare for government reporting.
- Assist with the delivery and completion of required assessments of data privacy vendors processing personal information leveraging the OneTrust Assessment Module.
- Assist with the implementation of HCP Engagements digital platform.
- Complete various projects related to HealthCare compliance by Compliance and Legal Team members
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members such as Commercial Marketing, Sales, Finance, Patient Services, Patient Advocacy, and Medical.
- Prepare documents, reports and PowerPoint presentations and work within the Compliance SharePoint team site.
Requirements: - MUST be currently enrolled in a U.S. Undergraduate, Graduate Degree Program, and/or Law School and not graduating prior to the completion of the Ionis internship
- MUST be able to begin internship between 6/11 and 6/14/2023
- MUST be able and willing to remain in program through at least 8/16/2023
- MUST be able and willing to commit to a minimum 40-hour work week
- MUST be able and willing to either work remote or onsite in Boston, MA or Carlsbad, CA
Desired Experience, Skills, Abilities: - Detail and quality oriented
- Natural curiosity to learn legal and compliance concepts, specifically in the context of the pharmaceutical industry
- Creative and skilled in the development of online content e.g., user friendly documents that include hyperlinks
- Good project management skills; able to balance multiple priorities and work closely with cross-functional groups
- Self-starter, with the ability to think critically and apply to problem solving
- A positive attitude, flexibility, and a proactive thought process
- High integrity/ethics
- Understands importance of confidential information
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other Office Programs

The pay scale for this position is $18 to $23 per hour.
