The Medical Assistant Lead is a seasoned multiskilled health professional responsible for performing administrative and clinical tasks while delivering outstanding customer service and maintaining positive patient engagement. Trains and/or serves as a mentor to other medical assistants in the center or region. Provides direction to other medical assistants and may function as a formal team leader. Utilizes independent initiative and judgment to assist the Center Administrator with key initiatives, quality control and service standards, budgets, etc.

Is considered a subject matter expert (SME) and activities and problem solving performed are complex in nature, including the handling of escalated patient issues and complaints, as necessary. Working under minimal supervision and limited administrative guidance due to previous experience/breadth and depth of knowledge, regularly exercises discretion and judgment in prioritizing administrative requests and interpreting and adapting procedures, processes, practices, and protocols. Embraces, participates in, and provides recommendations in operational administrative processes, initiatives, and improvement activities. Collaborates with center and clinical leadership to provide effective feedback in the overall assessment and performance of medical assistants. Has ownership of many center tasks (e.g., medical supply inventory, supply ordering, immunization program information)

The Medical Assistant Lead works closely with providers under their direct supervision to: manage the provider's schedule to ensure efficient workflow, perform pre-visit planning based on patient visit type, room patients. Gathers and enters patient information into electronic medical records and identifies and carries our HEDIS and STARS quality measures. Takes vital signs, administers medication, performs diagnostic tests, collects specimens including phlebotomy, and maintains equipment and patient care areas.

Provides direction and guidance to other medical assistants to help drive quality patient care and outcomes and increase positive patient engagement. Working under limited guidance due to previous experience/breadth and depth of knowledge, regularly exercises discretion and judgment in prioritizing requests and interpreting and adapting procedures, processes, practices, and protocols. Embraces, participates in, provides recommendations, and leads in operational and clinical process initiatives and improvement activities. Helps facilitate the skills development of lower-level medical assistants and collaborates with center and clinical leadership to provide effective feedback in the overall assessment and performance of medical assistants. Embodies services standards for medical assistants across the region and leads departmental special projects as requested.

This role is considered a patient facing role and is part of Humana's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program. If selected for this role, you will be required to be screened for TB.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Medical Assistant Lead Working hours:

Scheduled 40 hours per week

Monday to Friday 8AM-5PM

Local travel may be required; Mileage is reimbursed
