Responsibilities:

Admit, evaluate, diagnose, perform history and physical exam and provide consultation for newborns.
Provide neonatal resuscitation using NRP guidelines, stabilize, evaluate and deliver quality postnatal
care to stable term newborns and infants 32 weeks gestation and 1500 grams. Provide care to infants
with physiologic immaturity or are moderately ill. Provide ventilation and oxygen support to newborns as
required for stabilization and treatment. Provide nutritional support and intravenous access for hydration
and treatment of metabolic and common infections of the newborn. Stabilize infants that are ill and
require a higher level of care including those less than 32 weeks, less than 1500 grams or require
surgery until they may be transferred to an appropriate level NICU.

1. Bladder catheterization
2. Lumbar Puncture
3. Circumcision
4. Intravenous access, phlebotomy including umbilical catheterization
5. Fluid and electrolyte management
6. Insertion and management of feeding tubes
7. Suprapubic bladder tap or catheterization
8. Electrocardiogram initial interpretation
9. Nutritional support of newborn
10. Oxygen delivery and airway management
11. Pain management
12. Emergency aspiration of pneumothorax and chest tube insertion

Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Required Credential(s):
Physician MD/DO with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board of Medicine obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Credentialing done by Medical Staff department.

Education:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Optometry (OD) or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) required.
