Multiple vacancies located in the Commercial Division of the Secretary of State, Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA.
This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) as follows:
If filled as a Commercial Specialist A - $16.63hour or $1,330.40 bi-weekly
If filled as a Commercial Specialist B - $17.79/hour or $1,423.20 bi-weekly
If filled as a Commercial Specialist C - $20.37/hour or $1,629.60 bi-weekly

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Commercial Specialist A, B or C depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for Commercial Specialist C is $80,267 . Please refer for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualification requirements and job concepts for each level.

[email protected] Qualifications QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A baccalaureate degree.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six years of full-time work experience in any field will substitute for the required baccalaureate degree.
Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:
A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree will substitute for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To examine, research, and verify commercial documents ensuring compliance with various statutes, and to process/review lawsuits served on the Secretary of State regarding commercial issues and functions.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Typically, direct from a Commercial Supervisor. May receive supervision from higher level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
LOCATION OF WORK: Department of State.

Differs from Commercial Specialist B by the absence of experienced level duties and responsibilities.

NOTE: Incumbents occupying these positions will be cross trained to perform any of the listed examples of work and may be assigned to work within any section of the Commercial Division.
Examines and approves commercial documents establishing business entities, subsequent documents which amend the entity's filings, and termination documents to ensure that authorization, completeness, notarization, legislative mandated fees, and applicable chapter filings are in compliance with Louisiana Revised Statutes.
Assists in performing investigations of foreign corporations and limited liability companies conducting business without a certificate of authority.
Enters official documentation into computer records and produces appropriate certificate.
Maintains current legal resources on statutes imposed by the Legislature including Attorney General opinions.
Researches and utilizes current commercial information in order to prepare certification and authentication documents requested by clients.
Researches, determines, and authorizes name availability for corporations, limited liability companies, and trade names.
Reviews all Clerk of Court Uniform Commercial Code entries in the computer database and advises the proper Clerk of Court staff regarding entry errors.
Provides general advice and interpretation of laws, regulations, and administrative policies and procedures on business entity document preparation.
Performs on-site examination and approval of notary applications, annual reports, and notary bonds.
Ensures that tests, authorizations, and statutorily-mandated fees are in compliance with all requirements.
