Poplar Springs Hospital i s a 183 bed acute care and residential facility. For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral health services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military. Position Requirements:

Education/Experience:

Must have a Masters’ Degree with licensure in Special Education and at least 5 years’ experience as a school administrator, preferably in a private day school serving special education students. Endorsement in Administration and Supervision is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school in accordance with state and hospital guidelines
• Ensure the provision of quality, individualized classroom instruction tailored to the meet the needs of challenged adolescents
• Hire, train, and provide on-going support for education staff
• Provide training and professional development for all education staff
• Assume leadership for a quality instructional program that meets Virginia’s Standards of Quality and Standards of Learning
• Ensure a consistent, research-based behavior management program is in place to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn
• Maintain school accreditation and follow all VDOE guidelines for Private Schools that serve Special Students
• Serve as a member of the RTC leadership team
• Work with Local Education Agencies and participate in the IEP process to ensure compliance with IDEA
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with all hospital staff
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with school representatives throughout the state
• Ensure continuity of educational programming for all students at admission and discharge from the RTC program

General Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities. (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
• Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
• Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions.
• Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
