The Out-of-Door Academy seeks to hire a Middle School Learning Specialist to join a thriving school that is committed to providing a rigorous, relevant, and student-centered learning experience for every student we serve.

Responsibilities - Reporting to the Head of Middle School, the Middle School Learning Specialist will be responsible for the following:

• Develop and update student accommodation plans for students with approved documentation; distribute plans to teaching educators, advisors, school counselors, Academic Deans and Division Heads.
• Help students and educators implement accommodations and utilize strategies to enhance academic and personal development.
• Assist educators and administrators with supplemental instructional methods for individualizing and differentiating instructions for students with specific, identified learning needs.
• Interpret psychological-educational testing to identify academic needs and implement accommodations to enhance academic success.
• Assess student learning needs and abilities in order to produce useful academic strategies; make appropriate referrals for educational testing, academic coaching, and tutoring.
• Be a liaison between parents, students, and educators to provide guidance and expertise to help students reach their educational and personal
• Collaborate with colleagues at the Lower and Upper School levels to ensure smooth transitions for students between 5th and 6th grades, and 8th and 9th grades.
• Fulfill the role of a Middle School Advisor.
• Live the school’s mission and core values of respect, integrity, service, excellence, and responsibility.

Qualifications - The following experience, skills & knowledge are required and/or preferred:

• Bachelor’s Degree in special education (preferred) or a related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
• Training in specialized programs such as reading specialist, language-based learning strategies, educational therapies,
• Demonstrated passion for kids with a broad and deep knowledge of traditional and emerging educational trends.
• Invested in making contributions beyond the classroom, such as advisory, clubs, and coaching.
• Proficient with Word, Excel and the Google drive platform.
• A successful track record of working and communicating effectively with a wide range of constituencies including students, educators, staff and parents.

Compensation and Benefits

This is an 11-month full-time exempt position available in August 2024. Compensation is highly competitive and commensurate with experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Today, the five-acre Siesta Key campus is home to the Lower School (PK-5), and the 90-acre Uihlein Campus in Lakewood Ranch houses both the Middle and Upper Schools. Facilities include interactive technology in every classroom, a fine and performing arts center with a black box theater, a student and STEM Center, a competition gymnasium with wellness center, a field house, a lighted stadium, tennis courts and a practice complex. A new Middle School campus was recently completed and opened in August, 2020.
