University of Pittsburgh Physicians (UPP), Emergency Medicine is hiring a full-time Physician Assistant or CRNP (Emergency Nurse Practitioner) to support our Washington County site. This full-time position will support a 24/7 schedule with 4 10-hour shifts, weekly. No call. Emergency, urgent care, and/or hospitalist medicine experience is preferred. Staff Level:
The Staff Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (EMNP)and a member of the care delivery team. The Staff APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Staff APP has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The Staff APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Staff APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Staff APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Staff APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.
The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.
Responsibilities:
- Meets expectation of facilitating a face-to-face contact between patients and a physician, and a review of every patient chart by a physician
- Patients per hour are at least 90% of the average benchmark based on site volume
- Complies with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health)
- Complete patient charts and prepare discharge instructions. Ensure all charting is thorough and complete for each patient. Ninety five percent of all charts must be completed before the end of shift. Any remaining charts are completed within 3 days of date of service.
- Performs when necessary, routine procedures such as splinting, reductions, laceration repair, I&Ds etc.
- No more than 3 valid complaints in a year
- Perform an appropriate history and physical examination based on the patient’s presenting complaint. Document findings in the medical record.
- Work with other mid-level providers to ensure all shifts are covered in Emergency Department on a 24/7 basis.
- Assess patient’s condition quickly and concisely and determine the best course of treatment. This can include ordering appropriate laboratory or imaging studies, discussing patient with the Emergency Physician and/or referring patient to consultants.
- Unscheduled call-offs do not exceed 2 times per year . If there are 3 or more call-offs, the standard is not met.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients served as specified below
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
- Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs
- Provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures
