Overview:
Oversee all operations of the residence life program ensuring all students receive a quality of Iife that is guided by the mission of the College. Implement policies and procedures related to student life, housing, safety, and security. Develop and oversee a residential curriculum that promotes student growth and development, in support of the College strategic plan and the Student Affairs PC Path.
Essential Duties:
- Serve as the leader of the residence life staff, supporting the mission and strategic goals of the Division of Student Affairs and the College. Responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of residence life staff at all levels. Ensure all college policies and procedures, as well as legal obligations are in effect and are complied with within the residence halls. Make recommendations informed by data and assessment to improve the overall student experience. Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with all college offices. Participate in divisional and campus-wide committees.
- Serve as leader in residence life crisis response. Collaborate with the Dean of Students Office, and other key campus partners in the event of a student crisis. Develop and distribute the residence life on-call schedule. Serve in the division of student affairs on call rotation. Train all residence life staff at all levels of crisis and emergency response. Serve as a core member of the CARE Team and attend twice weekly incident review meetings. Ensure residence life incident reports are submitted and processed in a timely manner in accordance with the Clery Reporting Act. Make necessary referrals to the Office of Community Standards and work collaboratively in addressing behavior concerns in the residence halls, and training residence life staff to serve as conduct officers. Oversee the Advocate software system in partnership with the Dean of Student Office and the Office of Community Standards.
- Oversee the opening and closing of residence halls throughout the entire calendar year. In partnership with Physical Plant, ensure all residence halls, suites, and apartments are of suitable living conditions. Communicate with the Bursar's Office to ensure accurate student billing of housing charges and meals. Coordinate move-in and move-out processes including break and summer housing. Determine appropriate levels of card access for students living in the residence halls with the Card Office using the Personal and Transact systems. Oversee the housing selection process for returning students and the housing placement process for new students. Oversee the maintenance of student housing as it relates to vandalism and damage billing. Make recommendations to student affairs senior leadership for residence hall renovation projects.
- Provide oversight to the development and implementation of a residential curriculum as welJ as departmental assessment initiatives. Administer departmental assessment tools, collect data, monitor occupancy rates, and provide recommendations and reports. Assist in coordinating metrics for strategic initiatives. Respond to requests from offices and agencies regarding living on campus. Assist with the implementation of the EBI Skyfactor Assessment, conduct annual assessment projects, collect data regarding the housing selection process, conduct focus groups to gain feedback on residence hall improvement projects, and prepare monthly occupancy reports. Assist with the implementation of the College's strategic plan and PC Path into departmental initiatives, programs, and services. Work collaboratively with the Chaplain's Office and Campus Ministry in integrating the hall chaplaincy program and faith into the residential Jiving experience. Oversee a robust summer housing operation that includes living and learning communities.
- Administer a residence life budget of over $1.5 million dollars. Devise short and long term budget plans. Review and approve all department expenditures. Collaborate with various constituents to ensure the housing needs of students are appropriately met and the staffing needs of the department are appropriately met.
Marginal Duties:
- Perform all other duties as may be required.
Education and Experience Required:
- Master's degree, preferably in higher education or related field, from an accredited institution required.
- Five to seven years' experience in a residence life atmosphere in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to multi-task while responding to crisis and conflict that can arise at anytime in a high-volume environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to regularly communicate with students and parents.
- Ability to prepare reports that may be shared at the cabinet or trustee level.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and promoting an inclusive community with students and staff.
- Demonstrated understanding of, or commitment to, advancing the Catholic and Dominican identity. Ensure mission is an integral part of the residential living experience.
- May be required to work some nights and weekends and be available for emergency situations.
