We are seeking an experienced, hands-on strategic communicator to take the Purple Heart Homes brand to the next level. As the Director of Communications, you will be responsible for setting the tone for all messaging as well as developing and implementing communication strategies, both internal and external, that promote our organization's mission and increase public awareness. You will have the opportunity to utilize your creative skills to engage with various stakeholders, including board members, donors, volunteers, and media outlets.

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans to support the organization's mission and strategic goals
- Develop, train, and maintain standard talking points for recurrent topics and emerging matters
- Develop articles, presentations, speeches, and press kits. Serve as copyeditor and/or ghostwriter or leaders as necessary
- Grow our media presence by creating engaging content, building interest and coverage, and pitching compelling stories for various communication channels to build our image and drive awareness in our services
- Manage and maintain the organization's brand identity, tone, and messaging to ensure consistent branding across all platforms and touchpoints
- Cultivate relationships with media outlets and proactively seek opportunities to promote the organization's initiatives and achievements
- Work the marketing team on the planning and execution of fundraising events, including coordinating with stakeholders event logistics
- Create and manage cross-channel pre- and post-event communications to drive brand awareness and connections
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather information and insights for effective communication materials
- Ability to work across the organization, providing guidance and support to streamline communication
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant and progressively more responsible experience in public relations, communications, and/or social media roles
- Proficient in utilizing social media platforms, a capacity for SEO-friendly headlines and content, strong understanding of content management systems, algorithms, and engagement best practices
- Excellent writing and editing talents, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to craft compelling, strategic content for various audiences that deliver results, gain story placement and media coverage
- Strong project management, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Experience in media relations, including establishing and maintaining relationships with journalists and securing media coverage
- Strong leadership abilities, with the capacity to motivate and inspire a team to achieve common goals
