Purpose of Position

The Director of Admissions and Records is responsible for the recruitment of law students, the planning, coordination, and implementation of major admissions/recruiting events, and the maintenance of records for the admissions process while assisting in the development and implementation of comprehensive marketing and recruitment plans to meet the enrollment goals and objectives. The recruitment of high-quality students is critical to the success of the law school in reaching the next level of excellence and in maintaining funding for the delivery of our educational program, and this position is responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive plan for the recruitment of law students. This position will also work directly with current students to assist them with questions regarding academic transcripts, class registration, grades, enrollment verifications, graduation requirements, and bar registration. The Director reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Student Services and is responsible for the supervision of two professional staff positions.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee all major School of Law admissions, records, and recruitment efforts, including pre-law events, admissions meetings and tours, in-person and virtual admission information sessions, law fairs, and other related events.
  • Serve as one of the School of Law’s primary contacts for inquiries from prospective and current applicants.
  • Establish and foster connections with pre-law advisors at regional/feeder secondary and post-secondary institutions.
  • Travel to represent law school as needed at recruitment fairs and in visits to undergraduate institutions.
  • Work with the Northern Plains Indian Law Center to coordinate recruitment of American Indian students.
  • Coordinate with LSAC and related entities to ensure application CRM system is functioning properly.
  • Coordinate use of financial aid and records to assist students.
  • Work with the Director of Alumni & Public Relations to prepare effective marketing materials in print and electronic form.
  • Establish effective record-keeping for admissions process.
  • Work with the Dean to determine scholarship and/or waiver eligibility for prospective students and effectively use available recruitment scholarship funds to recruit incoming students.
  • Communicate regularly with newly-admitted students and work with other constituencies as needed to help resolve financial aid, immigration, or other student issues and to help facilitate incoming students’ transition to law school.
  • Participate in Law School Admissions Council activities and training to increase effectiveness of admissions process in the law school.
  • Work with the School of Law Admissions Committee and the Dean to support the admissions decision-making process.
  • Assist with analysis of admissions data, academic performance, and student retention.
  • Provide programming and professional administrative support for Office of Student Life, including overseeing major records dissemination/retention functions.
  • Establish effective and efficient record-keeping processes and practices for prospective, current, and former students.
  • Work with Admissions Application Specialist and School of Law academic advising resources to ensure proper certification of graduation requirements for each student.
  • Work with UND Registrar’s Office and academic advising resources regarding graduation and transcript questions.
  • Coordinate dissemination of requested information to NCBA/boards of law examiners as required.
  • Work with Assistant Dean to provide ongoing assessment of quality and efficiency of student services, and recommend changes and enhancements based upon evaluation, observation, and input.
  • Work with Assistant Dean to coordinate, implement, and administer first-year orientation program.
  • Work with Assistant Dean, Director of Career Development, Director of Student Life, and faculty to develop, implement, and administer Student Life programming.
  • Provide professional support to Assistant Dean, including compiling information for various reports and developing and implementing policies and procedures related to student life and to ensure compliance with School of Law, University, NDUS, ABA, and AALS standards and policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assist with School of Law administration.
  • Coordinate course registration process.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience in student services or related field.
  • Experience in managing records or maintaining information in an effective manner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications, as well as other standard computer software programs.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school (conferred by position start date); OR Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, business, public administration, human resources, or related field (conferred by position start date).
  • Previous recruiting experience.
  • Experience working in a legal or higher education setting, or with academic programs.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of Canadian law licensure issues and processes.
