JOB SUMMARY

Disability Resources is the unit in the university responsible for coordinating and leading compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act regarding accommodations for students, guests, and visitors with disabilities. The department is responsible for providing all classroom, residence hall, and event accommodations. The university is required by federal legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and Section 504, to provide services specifically outlined as accommodations for students with disabilities.

 

This position exists to act as resource to the campus community to ensure equal access for students, guests, and visitors with disabilities. More specifically, this position provides academic support, advising, and counseling to undergraduate and graduate students with both physical and non-physical disabilities. The Disability Specialist also serves alumni, incoming, prospective, and non-degree seeking students, and students with temporary disabilities. This position provides advising and support to faculty and staff as it relates to their work with students with disabilities in their classes and programs. The Disability Specialist coordinates the accommodations offered through Disability Resources, promotes its services to the campus and community, provides ongoing training, and enforces the university’s compliance with the ADAAA. The overall purpose of this job is to assist in providing quality services to students with disabilities to allow them equal access to all university programs and activities.
