Departmental Overview University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) helps build Berkeley's excellence through communications, public outreach, and fundraising to raise public awareness about Berkeley and increase private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus's philanthropic advancement strategies and strengthens campus unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. It handles a range of central activities and services encompassing prospect development, communications, donor stewardship, gift management, and more. Annual Programs Overview Annual Programs is a division of UDAR and is the university's largest fundraising department, responsible for engaging thousands of alumni, parents, and students as donors and volunteers each year. The goals of this department are to: 1) increase the number of annual donors, 2) significantly raise the amount of discretionary funds for the Chancellor, the deans and program directors, and 3) identify campaign/major donors for the campus. Programs include the Parent and Family Philanthropy program, Pipeline Development, and Direct Response Marketing. The department is made up of 33 employees and raises $13-$15 million in private contributions each year. The Parent and Family Philanthropy program raises funds from parents and families of current UC Berkeley undergrads and undergrad alums. . An increasingly important campus constituency, Berkeley families contribute over $13M in annual support to the campus. This position provides an opportunity to help build a program that both serves and partners with one of the university's most enthusiastic and engaged communities, its parents. Position Overview The Assistant Director of Parent and Family Philanthropy raises leadership gifts from parents of current students and parents of alumni to support the Cal Parents Fund and other needs across the UC Berkeley campus. The position also works with the rest of the Cal Parents and Family Philanthropy team in UDAR to support and advance family philanthropy across campus, making families an increasingly significant source of financial support for schools, colleges and other units at Cal. Specifically, this position proactively manages a portfolio of 200-250 individual leadership and major gift prospects, who have the capacity to give between $100,000 and $250,000, making an average of 10 in-person and on-screen visits per month, along with text, email and phone contacts, to advance the donor relationship. The position qualifies major gift prospects and solicits gifts directly, develops and implements donor cultivation and stewardship plans, and collaborates with colleagues to promote the overall success of the Parent and Family Philanthropy team. The Assistant Director of Parent and Family Philanthropy is an experienced professional with a deep understanding of philanthropy; they independently perform the full range of responsibilities within the function; possess broad job knowledge; analyze problems / issues of diverse scope and determine solutions. The Assistant Director uses professional fundraising skills developed through prior experience in individual fundraising to secure $500,000 in philanthropic commitments annually for the university.
