Job description

1. Verifies citations, proofreads texts, and recommends modifications or changes to documents, as needed. 2. Drafts annotations of documents and verifies transcriptions of documents for a particular historical or literary period. 3. Researches, edits, and/or writes documentation for inclusion in a publication; accountable for producing valuable scholarly information. 4. Compares previously prepared transcriptions against copies of the handwritten originals. 5. Sets, monitors, and maintains project-specific budgets. 6. Plans and adheres to project-specific schedules. 7. Drafts work-for-hire contracts. 8. Prepares art for publication. 9. Supervises nonexempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.



Required Skill/ability 1: Proven ability to manage a print project from manuscript to publication. Excellent writing, editorial, proofreading, and organizational skills. Demonstrated accuracy and strong attention to detail.



Required Skill/ability 2: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well under pressure with a variety of people on a wide range of projects.



Required Skill/ability 3: Self-motivated with the ability to work independently. Ability to manage multiple projects for multiple clients and audiences on deadline. Previous experience generating and meeting publication schedules and budgets.



Required Skill/ability 4: Strong knowledge of and interest in art history.



Required Skill/ability 5: Demonstrated ability working in a Mac-based environment and working knowledge of MS Office Suite.



Preferred Education: Master's in art, art history, English, or journalism. Experience working in a museum; in a team-based environment; in presenting/articulating creative/print concepts; w/Chicago Manual of Style; w/printing processes, image prep, and color correction w/Adobe InDesign/Photoshop; TMS.



Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day)

Master's Degree in English or literature appropriate to the collection and three years of experience editing and researching scholarly materials for publication or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
