We are currently seeking to fill a Political Coordinator position. This position serves as coordinator of the union’s political action and legislative field programs. They will assist in lobbying the Oregon Legislature and work to elect Council 75 endorsed candidates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires two years of experience in coordinating or managing political campaigns and two years of planning or policy experience in working for and/or lobbying a state legislature or U.S. Congress.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- This position requires broad knowledge of modern campaign management and legislative process.
- Knowledge of organized labor is required.
- Requires communication skills and the ability to inspire and motivate people, to develop effective arguments supporting the union’s legislative and political action programs.
- Needs to be able to train and supervise project employees and interns.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts Council and local candidate interview sessions and assists members in the endorsement process for state and local levels.
- Plans and conducts grassroots field programs for legislative and political action.
- Represents the state union in meetings with members, candidates, legislators, and labor movement partners.
- Coordinates political action efforts, including training programs, candidate endorsements, and volunteer organizing.
- Manages lobbying program activities, from one-on-one meetings with lawmakers to communication strategy development.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience resolving workplace disputes and advocating on behalf of others, and/or engaging people in social justice organizing.
Candidates with bilingual or multi-lingual skills encouraged to apply.
Salary range $5,743 – $9,281 per month, healthcare, employer 401k contributions, long term disability, and life insurance.
