Longy School of Music of Bard College seeks a full-time Associate Director of Major and Planned Giving to identify, engage, solicit and steward prospects and donors capable of four- and five-figure gifts; annual fund support; and Sempre Society (planned giving) membership growth. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial, results-driven approach to the position and the ability to identify and implement innovative ideas to move the fundraising program forward. Responsibilities - Manage a portfolio of 150+ major and planned gift prospects and donors:
- Set and achieve ambitious annual targets for numbers of gifts and increased annual fund gifts of $1,000 and up.
- Set and achieve annual solicitation/closure goals of major and planned gifts.
- Track and record contact reports for all significant donor moves in Raisers Edge.
- Propose and execute, with the Director of Development, engagement, and stewardship strategies, including events, to support major and planned giving programs.
- With the Director of Development, work closely with Board members and other leadership donors to maximize opportunities at the annual Gala and other events for friend raising and fund-raising activities.
- Ensure fundraising activities align with Longy’s equity goals, including representing a diverse student and faculty body.
- Conduct prospect research to identify potential major and planned giving donors.
- Prepare giving reports, gift documentation, donor proposals, event briefings, and strategy documents to support the President, Director of Development, Senior Staff, program officers, and/or Board members.
- Serve as primary administrative support staff for the Board of Governor’s Development & Governance Committee, including taking minutes, preparing materials, drafting agendas, and collecting attendance.
- Maintain thorough understanding of Longy degree and non-degree programs, as well as artistic season, through collaboration with Academic Affairs staff.
- Attend key events and concerts on a regular basis to ensure a welcoming guest experience for top donors and prospects.
- Event Support, as assigned (duties shared among the Development team):
- Staff Longy concerts and events where donors, board members and stakeholders may be in attendance.
- Organize and assist with fundraising events, meetings, and engagement activities, as needed.
- Assist with event budget management, invitations, ticketing, setup and breakdown of event spaces, food, beverage, and decorations.
- Arrange for and supervise student workers at events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - 3+ years of fundraising experience or equivalent
- Experience in asking for and closing major gifts of $5,000 or more.
- Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with individual, government, and foundation donors.
- Excellent writing skills, including proposal writing experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
- Ability to make people feel welcomed and heard; this extends from fellow colleagues, to program participants, and to members of the public.
- Creativity and humor, with enthusiasm for exploring new ways doing things.
- Track record as an organized, quick and strategic thinker.
- Ability to perform well under deadlines and in high-energy situations.
- Knowledge of, and affinity for, the arts and music preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, Raiser’s Edge queries and reports strongly recommended.
- Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed.
