Summary
The position of KEY Camp Nurse (RN) provides care for the wellbeing of campers and staff, monitors health and cleanliness standards, administers medication and treatment to campers and staff, and complies with necessary documentation. The nurse works with KEY Camp staff to ensure a high-quality, positive, and safe experience for campers.
Responsibilities
The nurse is responsible for administering medication and attending to the campers and staff health needs. Whether in the office or not, the camp nurse is expected to respond to campers' and staff needs in person or over the phone. The full time (or day shift nurse) is required to remain on campus a majority of the day and is on-call during the day shift. The full time (or night shift) nurse is required to stay overnight in the Residence Hall and is on-call during the night shift.
- Full time: (24/7 - day and night) or
- Day shift: from 9am to 4pm
- Night shift: from 4pm to 9am
Essential Duties - Oversee the health and wellness of approximately 124 campers and 15 staff.
- Administer and record campers' medications.
- Inventory, replenish, store, and monitor all prescription and over the counter medications and products.
- Ensure that first aid kit supplies are maintained and properly stored.
- Provide first aid for minor cuts, scrapes, bruises, dehydration, etc.
- Assess and assist with the health, wellness, and hygieni c needs of campers and staff.
- Ensure the camp environment is safe for campers and staff.
- Remain visible and accessible to campers and staff at all times, including camp activities.
- Notify camp instructors and staff of any campers absent to class due to illness or injury.
- Monitor campers' special health needs (food restrictions/allergies) and communicate with camp staff to ensure that campers have access to the appropriate meals/snacks.
- Identify health issues serious enough to require a physician's attention; report staff and student health concerns to the Lead Counselor and Community Education staff when applicable.
- Arrange any other needed medical visits through Community Education Staff and Camp Director.
- Provide assistance during medical emergencies; report incidents/accidents to the Lead Counselor and Community Education staff.
- Maintain pertinent information about campers' health needs including incident reports, nurse visit logs, campers' medical and insurance forms with safety and confidentiality as high priorities.
- Participate in the check-in process of each camp session, meet with each family to ensure that campers' medical information is accurate and to receive and properly label campers' medications.
- Participate in all training, meetings, activities, and ceremonies.
- Know and follow all safety policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp program and Casper College.
- Ensure the proper use of all facilities at all times. Report facility and grounds health risk factors.
- Follow and enforce all behavioral expectations.
- Comply with all applicable laws and Casper College policies to ensure staff' and campers' wellbeing, including applicable local and state health orders.
- Communicate directly with campers and their families when appropriate.
- Assist with camp setup and clean up.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment - Typical work environment is a college campus setting, including classrooms, residence halls, outdoor areas, and dining hall.
- Must be available to work two full days before camp begins and through the duration of camp.
- Required to stay overnight in the Residence Hall (full time or night shift nurse only).
Physical Demands - Employee must be able to move easily across a variety of indoor and outdoor terrain and to participate in a variety of activities and games, including outdoor games and sports.
- Employee must be able to stand or sit for long periods, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use a computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills - Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Wyoming
- At least 21 years of age
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications
- Ability to maintain and administer all medications
- Ability to relate to and communicate well with children
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to provide emotional support to campers struggling with adjustment to the camp environment
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize assigned work, solve complex problems, and work under pressure
- Must be able to reside on site when camp is in session
- A valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a background check

Note to Candidates - Employment is contingent upon a successful background check
- Full time: 24/7 - day and night ($4,000 Stipend $500 bonus, plus room and board)
- Part-time Day shift: from 9am to 4pm ($1,800 Stipend, includes breakfast and lunch)
- Part-Time Night shift: from 4pm to 9am ($2,000 Stipend, plus room and board)
- The selection process will be ongoing through the Spring semester until all positions are filled
