Job description

Assistant Director of Student Services

Assistant Director of Student Services- Division of Nutritional Sciences

Who we are:

The mission of the College of Human Ecology is to improve lives by exploring and shaping human connections to natural, social, and built environments. Through innovative collaborations and an interdisciplinary, applied approach, the College of Human Ecology addresses the complexity of the human experience. It is home to approximately 1000 undergraduates, 200 graduate students, 120 full-time faculty, and over 25,000 proud alumni.

The Division of Nutritional Sciences was founded in 1974 as a unit that is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Cornell Human Ecology. The Assistant Director in the Division of Nutritional Sciences plays an instrumental role in advancing and supporting the Division's undergraduate and graduate students and academic programs and the success of its students.

The Division annually enrolls over 700 undergraduate students in three majors across two colleges, three undergraduate minors, and one concentration; Division undergraduates may also be on pre-health and/or pre-professional dietetics tracks. There are over 85 students in the Division's Ph.D., M.S., and Dietetic Intern graduate programs. There are over 32 faculty, including RTE faculty, approximately 30 research and extension academic employees, and 20 support staff.

What you will do:

The Division offers a variety of Experiential Learning Opportunities (ELO), which is a broad term referring to learning that leverages traditional classroom-based instruction. ELOs are arranged in DNS in various ways, including through courses, in research labs and at research field sites, with domestic organizations, and on the ground at international sites, among others. The ELO is a curricular requirement for one of the Division's majors and for one of the Division's minors; we are expanding the availability of engaged and experiential learning opportunities to support the academic program goals in DNS and our colleges. The Assistant Director is an integral member of the academic advising team and works collaboratively to counsel, guide, and foster student development, facilitating students' ability to thrive at Cornell, successfully complete their degree programs, and realize their educational and career goals.

Responsibilities:

While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.

What you get:

We hope you appreciate great benefits. Cornell receives national recognition, as an award-winning workplace for our health, wellbeing, sustainability and diversity initiatives.
