QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Master’s degree in education or a subject-related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of elementary classroom experience
- Some experience in curriculum development and coaching
- Valid Texas Teacher Certification
- ESL Certification
Preferred
- Experience in District or State Level Professional Development
- Bilingual
Special Knowledge & Skills - Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Knowledge of best practice strategies
- Knowledge of instructional technology
- Ability to interpret data
- Ability to communicate effectively with bilingual parents and students
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of Title III federal program regulations and requirements
Duties and Responsibilities: - Works with elementary schools to perform outreach and intervention for Newcomer and Immigrant students and families.
- Supports elementary campus personnel in cultural and linguistic differences, barriers to attendance, newcomer education, and social skills through resources and direct teaching.
- Identifies, informs, and refers parents and school staff to appropriate resources and services in the community.
- Supports newcomer student achievement to make new learning comprehensible to students and assist with developing basic school skills necessary for success in the classroom.
- Keep records of newcomer student progress and assist with pre and post-testing for entering and exiting newcomer students.
- Monitors and supports progress in the classroom of newcomer students by providing resources, services, and information to parents and district staff.
- Collaborate with teachers in planning instruction and grouping students for focused instruction.
- Participates in student support teams and reports information to school staff as approved by the principal.
- Participates in training to further develop professional skills and stays current with research, practices, community agencies, institutions, and resources for newcomer and immigrant students and their parents.
- Collects, analyzes, and uses data at the district, campus, and student levels.
- Contribute to selecting and purchasing supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and other documents
- As a split funded position between local and federal funds, this requires semi-annual certifications and daily time and effort logs
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.
