Job description

The Department of Cinematic Arts at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Film Studies beginning in August 2024. We are seeking a skilled instructor to teach advanced undergraduate Film Studies courses. Salary will be based on number of courses taught. The Department of Cinematic Arts serves more than 500 undergraduate students in the Cinema and Screenwriting Arts majors and Cinema minor, as well as hundreds of non-majors through our General Education courses. We also maintain active graduate programs leading to the M.F.A. in Film & Video Production and to the M.A. and Ph.D. in Film Studies. The successful appointee will be asked to teach a 4/4 load with the possibility of teaching two sections of two courses (to reduce prep time by half). We are seeking an applicant who is capable of fulfilling curriculum needs at the intermediate-to-advanced Film Studies level, with the possibility of teaching production courses as well. While teaching topics are open, we are hoping this hire will add to our curricular offerings, especially in areas related to Global Cinema, Film Theory, Film History; Race, Gender, and Sexuality; New Media; or Animation.
