The Senior Consultant – Investment Performance Attribution will be responsible for generating attribution analysis for the assigned set of portfolios, with an initial primary focus on fixed income products across an array of vehicle types. The individual sought will be a thought leader and analytically proficient based upon prior experience and expertise. The scope of responsibilities will include high precision and quality investment performance attribution results for use by NTAM clients and numerous internal stakeholder groups. This role will act in partnership with practice groups including Portfolio Management, Product Management, Sales and Marketing, Investment Operations, and others from the P&A team. The role will also involve identifying, solutioning, and championing digital and automation initiatives to transform operational effectiveness and responsiveness to achieve scale while expanding upon the team’s current core functional output.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Act as a subject matter expert on investment performance analytics and measurement, drive excellence across this practice. Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a key subject matter expert and drive best practices across the firm regarding performance- and analytics-related content, for both internal and external constituents, across portfolios, benchmarks, and GIPS composites. This includes the understanding of performance analytics and implement best-practice attribution analysis and reporting capability, with multifunctional partners across the firm.
- Work with core-competency teams to develop, communicate, and execute the strategic roadmap for performance analytics, collaborating with both vendors and colleagues to achieve optimized results.
- Be a thought leader in identifying opportunities for digitization and automation to deliver both standard and customized reporting and insights efficiently, accurately, and at scale.
- Ensure governance and oversight of data processes used to calculate the values, thus facilitating compliance with established thresholds for accuracy and timeliness.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to assess the current state and architect the future state operating models, processes, and capabilities to successfully support evolving business needs.
- Assess service level agreements and suggest improvements to create a robust governance and control framework to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate information.
- Participate in the development of calculation and reporting data governance standards that are agreed and leveraged across global teams to ensure data quality.
- Oversee existing and prospective applications (proprietary and vended) to ensure fit-for-purpose platforms.
- Stay informed of regulatory and industry requirements that may impact data elements required for presentation to clients and prospects.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements to existing processes to further gain operational efficiency and productivity.
- Lead special projects, process improvement initiatives, and/or the implementation of solutions to meet business needs.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
- Detailed understanding of the investment management business, with particular expertise in fixed income strategies including investment/financial technology systems. Familiarity of Alternative investment process, performance and attribution analysis are complimentary to the role.
- Specific prior knowledge of and experience with fixed income attribution analysis, knowledge of BlackRock Solutions’ Aladdin analytics is preferrable
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong consultative skills ranging from gathering market and competitor insights, strategy development, influencing, facilitation and consensus building.
- Prior experience working with and influencing others to unlock new opportunities to drive excellence.
- Experience assessing and implementing performance and analytics platforms is desired.
- Experience in driving digital and automation-driven transformation to generate efficiencies and scalability.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with accuracy.
- Global outlook with sensitivity and awareness of social and cultural differences.
- Strong situational awareness, communication skills and decision making capabilities.
Necessary Experience and Education
- Bachelor degree; CFA and/or CIPM designation strongly preferred.
- At least 7-10 years of work experience in the investment management industry, with a demonstrated track record within the performance and analytics space at a mid-to-large investment management firm.
- Proficiency with investment as well as reporting and analytic tools and databases.
