The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, seeks to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented project manager to join our team. This position provides paralegal support to the AOC Legal Division and supports the state law library. This position will play a crucial role in assisting with legal matters, managing projects, and ensuring the efficient operation of the legal department. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. This position is part-time for 32 hours per week.

The AOC assists the Wyoming Judicial Branch in fulfilling its constitutional and statutory functions by providing administrative, technical, financial, payroll, auditing, and human resources support to over 300 employees. Our goal is to provide services in an accurate, timely, efficient, and equitable manner. Our offices are in Cheyenne, Wyoming which is home to Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo and abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ DUTIES: This position involves a variety of complex work duties. Strict confidentiality is required. Essential functions of this position include the following:

  • Customer Service and Collaboration

    • Communicate information and processes in a clear and timely manner.
    • Resolve problems and questions presented by coworkers and courts.
    • Ensure work is done in compliance with relevant federal and state laws.
    • Work in a team environment and establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with others.
  • Legal Support
    • Assist the Chief Legal Officer in managing and prioritizing legal matters, including contract review, Branch governance, litigation support, and regulatory compliance.
    • Conduct legal research on a wide range of topics, including case law, statutes, regulations, and court rules, to support legal analysis and decision-making.
    • Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, agreements, memoranda, rules, policies, and correspondence, under the guidance of the Chief Legal Officer.
    • Provide editing to the Legal Division as needed.
    • Manage and maintain legal department records, databases, and files, including contracts, litigation files, regulatory filings, and other documentation.
    • Provide administrative support to the Chief Legal Officer and Senior Counsel, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and handling correspondence and inquiries.
    • Facilitate meetings.
    • Assist in staffing various committees and sub-committees.
  • Project Management
    • Coordinate and manage legal projects, including organizing timelines, delegating tasks, and tracking progress to ensure deadlines are met.
    • Manage Branch contracts, shepherding contracts through the review and execution process and actively recommending improvements in the overall contract management process.
    • Managing contracts includes revising contracts and ensuring review by the legal team, fiscal team, State Court Administrator, and other relevant AOC staff.
  • Law Library Suppo rt
    • Assist the State Law Librarian in staffing and maintaining the state law library.
    • Work the Circulation Desk. Answer questions, direct patrons to material, retrieve requested material, check in and out materials as well as process material, create and update patron records to check out material, search collection for material for patron requests, and answer non-legal questions about library databases.
    • Assist with library material management including checking in new materials, creating claims with vendors when materials are not received, distributing material to courts, and researching material assumed lost.
    • Assist with Judicial Learning Center tours as needed.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) or Certified Paralegal (CP) applicants or those applicants with a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate degree preferably in a legal field of study.

Experience: One (1) or more years of work experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.

OR Experience: Three (3) or more years of experience are required without a degree.
