Job description
Assists with in room preoperative and intra-operative preparation of patients and assists with set up of the surgical suite before, during and after Endoscopic procedures under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required or
- equivalent required
Experience - 1-2 years Experience in a hospital setting required
Licenses and Certifications - CPR Certification required and
- CNA Certification required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Knowledge of Endoscopic types of procedures: EGD, ERCP, Colonoscopy
- Basic Computer skills to perform Data entry
- HIPAA policies on Confidentiality
- Clinical: Performs basic, routine and specialized tasks in assigned department, under the supervision of a registered nurse Works with specialized endoscopic procedures and Endoscopic equipment. Prepares equipment and surgical table for procedure. Provides assistance in moving patient from stretcher to surgical table and back. Prepares and helps with patient positioning. Provides assistance as need during endoscopy procedures. Helps pull case carts for the following day and returns all sterile equipment to its appropriate location. Care and maintenance of endoscopy equipment. Training mentor for new employees. Maintains washer and sterilizer i.e. changes sterilant as indicated. Stocking supplies in both endoscopy suites.
- Environmental: Maintains a clean, safe, prepared work environment Prepares sterile equipment and surgical table for procedure. Follows appropriate hand washing when scrubbing in a case and ensures sterilization techniques are followed. Cleans and sterilizes Endoscopy Room and equipment for case turnover.
- Development: Maintains current knowledge, certification and licensure Identifies learning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs. Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain certification. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted timeframe for completion (CPR, License, PPD, Competencies, Age Specifics, etc.).
- Organizational knowledge: Works effectively within and between departments Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as appropriate. Provides department/unit with information and knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.
